When i was younger my cat was shot with an airgun, and all the guy who did it said was he shouldn't have been in my garden!

The police did very little as they couldn't prove it was him.

yep thats the problem ive got you see i know the guy across the road done it its proving it but when the policeman told me dont worry we know about them and there being watched whoknows one day they might just kick his door in for some thing unrelated to my cats death and find an airgun in his house then do him for killing my cat aswell as he only lives across from me so fingers crossed and thanks to those who signed it might not do anything but itl give the cats and the dogs aswell a voice to be heard and get someone to sit up and take notice that this sort of thing cant carry on anymore

Yes, I had a feeling the police would have an idea about who was responsible for this. With people like this it's only a matter of time before they are apprehended for another offence. Hopefully it will be very soon!

Since airguns are essentially weapons I simply cannot understand why it's 'legal' to own one at this present time especially with all the reports of wilfull injuries to domestic pets seen in veterinary surgeries every day.

Forgive my naivety but what do people 'use' them for normally?

I cannot think of a good reason for having an air rifle nowadays, perhaps at one time it could be seen as a hobby if you had the space but why would you want one in a modern housing estate?? There is nowhere to safely use it and what would you shoot it at? If a kid had a genuine interest in target shooting they could join the Cadets and be properly supervised in a shooting range.
I've even had my car windscreen shot with an air gun whilst I was driving, not that the Police were interested but that's another story.
