Cat carriers for bigger cats
Those of you with big kitties.. Which carriers do you use? Our two moggies are filling their regular sized carrier quite snugly these days but for trips to the vets it's not a huge issue, but it got me thinking about the likelihood that the newbies are more than likely going to outgrow the standard cat sized carrier.
Zooplus do some that go up to a ridiculously huge size, but I don't want to go overboard. I guess I just have no idea how big these little mites might eventually grow going by some of the pictures I've seen ![]() ETA: Would you recommend a larger carrier for when we pick them up? Having never transported a cat further than about 5 miles (in which they'd managed to poo all over each other..) I'm clueless and slightly concerned about how an 80 mile journey is going to work :/

Re: Cat carriers for bigger cats
We researched the larger carriers before getting our two (as Siberians are quite a large breed) and after a lot of consideration went with a couple of these:
Catit Design Cabrio They're really good and look quite futuristic. LOADS of room inside! When we took our babies to the vet for their first check-up I think there was some carrier envy going on in the waiting room. ![]() That's also the cheapest site I've found for them. ![]()

Re: Cat carriers for bigger cats
I looked at those as I've seen a few people on here mention how good they were, but the measurements don't seem much larger than that of the carriers we already have.
I know what you mean about Vets and carrier envy, I've seen some strange sights in our waiting room when it comes to carriers! People use the oddest things sometimes lol ![]()

Re: Cat carriers for bigger cats
I use fabric carriers which fold flat for storage. They come in a range of sizes from small enough for a single cat up to large enough to work as a kittening pen. Don't look for cat carriers on the net though as for some reason they are horrendously expensive. Google 'fabric dog kennels' instead and you should bring up a selection of suppliers.

Re: Cat carriers for bigger cats
Maybe I'm getting the measurements mixed up or something, my boys are only moggies and if anything I always thought they were on the small side but they only really fit their carrier if they sit down and don't move lol.. I obviously don't see enough cats in my spare time to compare them to, this is something I must change
![]() And thanks Havoc, I was just saying to my OH how I liked the idea of the few fabric ones I had seen and flat storage is a bonus for this house.. But yeah, was a little at the prices of some of the larger carriers! Will have a google around.

Re: Cat carriers for bigger cats
Indy is a large moggy and he can comfortably curl up and move around a bit in the Cabrio but he can't stand up and pace or even fully sit 'up' as he's too tall
however - one thing to think about is you don't really want them to have too much room in a cat carrier - in the horrific event of a crash you don't want room for them to be 'flung' inside it - rather a slide-n-stop without much time to build up momentum. have seen MC's and NFC's in the Cabrio at shows quite happily the mesh dog crates can be bought cheap on eBay too ALL SIZES - Dog Puppy Pet Cage Folding Carrier Crate | eBay UK from £17.49 here (small standard gold) |

Re: Cat carriers for bigger cats
I like the Savic or Atlas ones as they are good and robust and stay shut unlike the borrowed carrier we had, I got mine from pets at home but they don't have the size that I brought, it's not a pretty carrier but it has top loading or front loading option but they come in a good range of sizes, I would always want to see it in the flesh to be able to assess the size.
