Question Do you think my cat is fat?

Pudding is 4 years old, he's not been castrated (yet! he going in a couple of weeks) he weighs between 12-13lb and is very heavy set. When i had him checked by the vet she did'nt say anything about his weight. But all my friends & family think he's too big and call him 'hench cat' & suggest i feed him less. I've attached a pic so you can see what he looks like, he's just a moggy tabby tho i think he might have a bit of BSH in him

Re: Do you think my cat is fat?

He certainly does not look 'fat' from the pictures, but as an entire male he will have developed a chunky muscular frame so I don't think 12/13lbs is heavy.
He is a very handsome chap either anyway....but can I ask why you have delayed getting him neutered?

Re: Do you think my cat is fat?

He looks fine in the pictures Some breeds actually get bigger if they are castrated earlier, I like chunky cats

Re: Do you think my cat is fat?

Hard to tell from the photos but a very sweet looking cat. (so is the other cat in the other photo) Rather than the weight you should look at his shape from above and his feel. Can't find the original site I looked at when looking at cat weight but here is another link.

How Do I Determine if My Cat is Overweight?

There is a cat where I work who is always wandering around the streets of Southwark. She looks pregnant and about to drop, but has been that way for over 2 years. Seriously fat cat. You know the average cat is said to have 7 homes, well this cat must have 70!

My neighbours cat was fed on meatballs and at 3 had heart problems due to being overweight. If your Vet never pointed anything out then all should be OK, but perhaps you can ask about it when he goes to get neutered?

Re: Do you think my cat is fat?

Un neautered males often do have a larger build especially round their face they usually have chubby cheeks! If the vet hasn't mentioned his weight then i am sure he is fine since they normally prefer cats to be on the light side.

Re: Do you think my cat is fat?

I don't think he's fat, just a big build. People think my ginger Maine coon is fat but I disagree, just a big build.
