Things I'd forgotten

.. about having kittens.

It's amazing how much I've already forgotten about when my two were kittens, even though they're still only 16 months. With the arrival of two new little ones in the near future, it got me thinking about what I'd need to have ready and what I should get used to again

Having had the boys at such a young age and barely trained in any form, at first we had to seclude them at night to one room with their litter tray, food and bed to minimise accidents. Is this still something we should do with the girls despite the fact they'll be almost double the age we got the boys and already litter trained?

Things for me to remember:

* Sleepless nights!
* Lots of meal times!
* Leg climbing? (This might just have been down to our naughty boys)
* Pillow hijacking.
* Constant paranoia that they'll hurt themselves on something.

I'm sure there's so much more I've forgotten.. Feel free to jog my memory!

Re: Things I'd forgotten

We brought ours home at 13 weeks and I placed each of them in the litter box and dug their paw in it, before letting them find their way back from the litter box so they would remember where it was. They didn't want to go then, but had no trouble finding it an hour or so later and we've had no trouble since. If they have been litter trained already and you make sure you stick with the same litter for a while, I can't envisage any problems in that department!

Losing them! I always used to panic that Eric had somehow got out because he was so tiny and I kept losing him! I would eventually find him behind a cushion or something lol!

I was always really scared of waking him or making loud noises. It was like having a newborn baby.

Re: Things I'd forgotten

I have a feeling (and almost hope!) that these two will be somewhat of a shock to the system after the toileting issues we had with the boys amongst other things. Me and OH have a feeling it's more likely the boys will go into hiding for a while when the girls arrive because they've never socialised properly and hide under the bed/sofa even if the door knocks..

The girls are a week apart in age difference, so we'll be doing introductions twice over. Bit worried about that to be honest as the boys will probably just get used to the one and then number two will toddle in a week later

Ah yes, the moment when all you want to do is creep downstairs quietly in the middle of the night for a drink but end up having an hours play because at the sound of a drop of a pin, the kittens have heard you!

I also love that they will have a completely mental run about and then just stop and they literally pass out asleep! They are like little narcoleptics!

Re: Things I'd forgotten

How you start looking before every step or before sitting down cus your paranoid you'll either sit or step on them!

How you feel guilty when eating something in front of them - even if you know they'd hate it they still sit there looking at you as if your being mean!

How absolutely everything in the house becomes a new toy to play with including but not limited to:-
Shoes,
Socks - (keep finding little piles of them under the table or behind the sofa )
carrier bags,
Boxes,
your feet!
your hands
your hair
their tail
your knife and fork
curtains
any loose ends on any clothing or carpet,
anything that rustles, rattles or rolls!

Re: Things I'd forgotten

We suddenly remembered the height discovery stage last night, when they started with chairs.. Then the breakfast bar.. Then the cupboard tops and doors.. Ending with the curtain rail. And the fact to get down they'd just hang on the curtain until you picked them off it

Everything they did was a phase, they'd discover something new they could do - spend days doing it, then forget about it. They hardly ever door or cupboard jump anymore!

Looking forward to having it all happen again
