Help needed

I made a huge silly mistake. I gave my kitten some semi skimmed milk and half and adult wet food pouch. Last night she started having diarrhea and being sick. Today I gave a little of her kitten pouch. Then she had diarrhea again but there was a tiny bit of blood. Is this a reaction to the milk and food? She's still her bouncy self and looking for food but we are just leaving her with biscuits and water. She was at the vet last week for her jag and is due back a week Friday.

Re: Help needed

I could be wrong but is the blood due to her straining too much when going to poo. I think you need to starve her for 24 hours and get her feeding again with small amounts of a bland food i.e boiled chicken until back to normal. You should consider thinking about taking her back to the vet if she gets worst.
Get well soon little girl

Re: Help needed

It was probably the milk cat/ kitten cannot tolerate the lactose in milk and it gives them a upset tummy the same goes for hedgehogs people used to think you could give them bread and milk but that is also a big No no

it won't necessarily be a reaction to the adult pouch, 'cat' and 'kitten' food are usually different in name only.

The milk wasn't the best of ideas, and if the kitten had never had that cat food before you shouldnt just change them up immediately.

However I would look to the milk being the issue rather than cat food.

Dry food actually makes diarhea worse, rather than 'drying it out' as people seem to think. Sloppy food does not = sloppy poo. Quite the opposite.

Re: Help needed

Try to keep her hydrated. If she won't drink water try putting some on a spoon and into her mouth.
It is important to keep her hydrated.
Also a little cooked chicken and rice.
Hope little one gets well soon.

Please be aware that kitten milk is meant as a treat and should really only be offered once or twice a week if that. I personally don't give my girls any form of treat milk ... the couple of times they have had it they got the runs So it's perhaps not the best idea to give it to your little one now either.

It's much better to have a saucer down with water in it , preferably away from her food as they are more likely to drink it then.

Re: Help needed

ALSO Just to pile on the information, if they eat a fully wet diet they don't need to take in much water externally, so if you feed wet and they don't drink, its not a huge concern as they are getting the moisture from the water. Cats are generally not good drinkers.

And yes kitten mil is a treat food really, not a drink

Re: Help needed

When i have been worried about my kittens getting dehydrated due to stomach upsets i always give them water in their mouth via a plastic medicine syringe.

As TB said, pls never starve a kitten, just very bland foods as you have been doing

Hope your kitty is feeling better really soon
