Sure Flap help please xxxx
Hi there,
I'm very new to this forum, but would love some advice. I have just had a new Sure Flap cat flap professionally fitted. Sadly I left hubby in charge and the guy fitted the flap without trying to get the cats through it first! Had i been around i would have done the decent thing and tempted them through prior to the thing being fitted. So I am now left with my 2 semi feral 8 month old kitty's that hate being picked up, let alone us trying to manipulate them through the flap. we did manage to get Sock into a cat carrier, place that outside so he had no option but to come through the flap. However, whilst in learn mode, i raised the flap to tempt him in, the light is still flashing and probably hasn't registered him at all. Help........... do the cats have to be in the tunnel for a set time so that the flap can register their chip????? i know holding the flap open wasn't the best thing to do, so won't do that again, but Sock came through the flap so fast, i'm not sure that it will register next time either. Any advice, greatly appreciated. Not even sure how we are going to get Tilly through, she's even more feral than Sock xxx |

Re: Sure Flap help please xxxx
Thanks for your reply. As these are fairly new to our family (since April) we've kept them indoors. Wanted to keep them safe till the cat flap was installed properly.
I'm hoping we can grab them and tempt them through again, although not sure we can cope with the blood loss ![]() the instructions mentions that you can keep it in learn mode and just let them come and go, once they've passed through it, it'll register, i'm just a bit nervous doing that. Sock has been out once, after he snuck out, we had to wedge open our old broken cat flap for him though as he'd never used one before. xxxxx |

Re: Sure Flap help please xxxx
After they have been through a couple of times can it be set to normal mode with your cats inside. If they wish to go out the microchip should be recognised and allow them out and if it doesn`t then you have to start over again I guess

Re: Sure Flap help please xxxx
I had the same problems, mine also start freaking out if I carry them towards the back door... I did Max before i fitted it, and basically held it over his head until it registered, then Oskar I had to carry him wriggling outside and then let him jump through it to get inside again.
You will hear a click when it has registered the microchip. It doesn't take that long, and then you will hear a click next time they are next to it and it unlocks. (it's quite loud) If it's that difficult it might be easier to take it out of the door again to register them? |

I think the Pet Porte lets you put more different settings but that needs mains power. |

Re: Sure Flap help please xxxx
It doesn't only register on the way in only, the microchip only needs to be read to be able to come in, as the assumption is that it's your cat indoors anyway, so no need to read the chip if the cat is on it's way out!
