Furminator?

I have now read about this magical device in a few threads and was wondering what it is and if it is any good

My main concern is that is might actually be cutting live hairs in the undercoat which is not something I want as I dont really want to thin out Jango's coat unnaturally (if that makes any sense..?) particularly as we are looking at showing in the next couple at months and I am sure that a thin coat won't go down well for condition.

I already use a slicker brush on him once a day which he now loves (its quite pathetic, he rolles onto his back so I can brush his belly - lol)

any first hand experience would be great

thanks

Re: Furminator?

Hi, there have been a couple of threads on here lately about furminators, so if you do a search you might pick up a bit more info. I seem to remember someone saying that if you used it at a 90 degree angle to the coat, it removes loose hair, but can cut hair if used at the wrong angle. I don't know anything about showing, someone else might be able to answer that one.

I would use it outside though if possible, I used mine on my moggy, who has very thick fur, and it's amazing how much comes out.

Re: Furminator?

I would stick to the slicker brush if you show hun. I think it takes a good couple of months (at least) for the coat to recover after a thorough going over with one, and really there's no point having one unless you're going to use it thoroughly.

Milly Cat is on a distinguished road
Re: Furminator?

I use a furminator on our cat and it does not cut the hair, no matter how you use it (I've tried it on my OH's arm so I know for sure ) I don't find it really thins her coat, just sort of makes her a bit smoother, but then I don't show her.
