Kitten become sleepy...?

hey guys

Just need some reassurance/advice

My Birman baby is now 17 weeks old and whilst previously he has been non-stop all the time he now seems to have really calmed down in the last couple of days and wants a lot more attention from me particularly like climbing on to my lap when he didnt before etc.

He is eating well and drinking plenty (loving the new water fountain I got him) and this morning (like all mornings) he was up at 5am and causing havoc (zooming around and playing). He was still causing chaos around lunch time but all afternoon he has just been snoozing and cuddling.

I know he is using the litter tray properly (both wees and poos) as I scoop it out twice a day.

He still gets up and plays with me but does seem to have calmed down quite a bit. Its been the same pattern now for the last days.

Is this just because he now feels more settled in his home? Or should I take him to the vets?

He doesnt have a runny nose, no runny eyes, no runny poos (no runny anything, lol)

Thanks for any advice

x

The heat may be having a bit affect, mine are lazier, but they do still have their mad moments.

As long as he is just sleepy, eating and drinking well, and not lethargic, then I don't see anything wrong...

Re: Kitten become sleepy...?

My little kitten is the same way. Sometimes he actually goes through phases. He can be bouncing off the walls one day and the next he'll sleep all day. I'm pretty sure its just kitty nature! :P no need to worry.

Re: Kitten become sleepy...?

Popeye is the same age, and I've noticed that he isn't bugging Sadie to play-fight as much as he used to. In fact, she had to resort to bugging him last night! Popeye is also getting more independent about where he wants to hang out in the house. Not unusual to find him decorating the stairs in the evening, now, while Sophie remains on top of her favourite chair, although they do still cuddle up in the window during the day.

Re: Kitten become sleepy...?

Am I right in thinking that the onset of this new, calmer behaviour coincides with the change in food brand? What were you feeding before?
We all know that cat are really not meant to eat grains, but so many cat foods contain them. I know I was made acutely aware of this the few times that I let the kittens get some of my older cats' dry food...the hyperactivity was marked and most unpleasant to see. I think Buffie noted a similar reaction from Meeko.

They aren't lazy, they just pick their moments well/are energy efficient (pick your favorite ).

Benji has been a little less playful in the past couple of days, mainly due to the heat. Have also found he prefers to curl up on the bathroom floor where it's nice and cool

You are correct PP's.I saw a marked difference in Meeko's "enthusiasm"for want of a polite word for his bad bahaviour .I do think grain free has made him less ""manic".As GWM says though I think the heat will also be playing a part in your kittens temporary calmness

Interesting - that hadn't crossed my mind! I changed Popeye (well, both of them) onto Nature's Menu a fortnight ago...... but perhaps more relevant that I changed them onto Applaws dried food last week - grain free and 80% meat. Previously they were getting Tesco Finest wet and dry. They have ad-lib dried food available during the day, plus pouches of wet food morning/early evening/bedtime.
