Re: Cat custody after partner walks out on us.

Hi im really sorry to hear about your situation I dont know if you would be legally able to claim custody of the cat if everything is in your ex girlfriends name. The only way I can see you being able to keep the cat is 1. if she gives the cat to you and you put everything in your name 2. you can prove where she is staying doesnt alow cats. I dont want to sound mean but unless your ex girl friend is sleeping rough on the streets I cant see a way that you would be able to keep the cat for good. Police are not much help on this matter I had a friend in a similar situation with a dog I hope you find a way to settle this soon, i know if it was my cat i would be really upset by it all.
xx

As before stated, it is a rented property, etc...
Her name is no longer on the lease as a registered tenant. I have her key so she has no legal means of entry.

Edited to say its such a shame if things have been amicable, but I honestly dont know what else you can do
I have spoken to the police. They advised if she keeps on with the 'harassment' to notify them. She may have had outside influences in regard to her actions from this "friend". Not drugs or alcohol. Over-emotional is a possibility. Finally realising what she has done.

I'm afraid I can't really advise for the long term, but in the short term at least, going by what you've said, the cats sound as if they are best off staying where they are.
Good luck with finding a solution to the problem, have you tried contacting the CAB, maybe they can offer some advice?

I think I know what you mean, the friend is advising her and probably making things worse Over-emotional is a definite Id say. Nothing worse in a split than realising what youve done and having nobody to blame but yourself

A very sad situation. I assume the police have given you a reference number so that you can add to your list of harrassment issues should the need arise?
