Please could you answer this question

I have 2 cats, 1 is 5 sasha who i have had for 3 years and we have a new kitten thomas who is 4 months.

It has been really hard since we have had thomas, sasha hates him, he keeps trying to play and bites her and jumps on her, she goes nuts and they are just fighting all the time. Neither has been hurt so thinking it is more play fighting but sasha is hissing a lot and growling at him, where he just wants to play i believe.

Anyway Sasha has just come home with a mouse!!! eek:

She has never done this before ever and i am wondering if it is because of all the stress at home is the reason she has started to do this?

Has anyone got any experience of this?

Thanks for reading

Kath

Cats hunt, she may be doing it to try and win you over though if she feels Thomas is taking you attention, a gift to make you love her again! lol

Personally, I think she has done it because it is in her nature to hunt. You simply might not have seen her previous catches.

Agree with Hobbs, it's in their nature to .... & they have immense fun doing it unfortunately.

Since we've moved my cat, Winnie has turned in to a voracious hunter. I am forever finding dead mice & even worse; half dead ones, that I have to put out of their misery

I agree with the above posts. . .

I think she might feel like she needs to fight for your attention a little by giving you presents too. . .

I think they'll probably settle down and get used to each other eventually. . .I think Sasha is maybe feeling a little confused with the new arrival as it is her territory after all as far as she is concerned. . . we had an older cat and introduced a kitten. . .the older cat never became friends with the kitten but she learned to live with her. . .
Yours may still become friends as there isn't that much of a large age gap between them but if not they should eventually become civil at least

Erm! well you know I aint a cat personbut seeing as no one else has dipped there toes in the water then I shall have a go! (shall berhaps get pounched on by the catty lot) From my own experience when we got billy atthree weeks old smoke was around ten! He would NEVER play with billyan we HAD to keep him safe until but smoke used to act all macho around him! Maybe the older cat is trying to relay too you that he is 'top dog' the provider etc etc etc!

Or maybe he has always hunted but never felt that he had to bring his prey home!

dunno - but if I have done nothing else I have bumped your thread with my bullpoo !

Re: Please could you answer this question

Thanks everyone, she doesnt go out much at all, but since we have had thomas she has now gone out more and more and we know it is to get away from him.

I am hoping when i get him done that will calm him down a bit.

Someone asked me the other day about her hunting, my reply was "she couldnt catch a flea nevermind anything else.

How wrong was i hey, unfortunately the mouse was still half alive, i went to get something to put it out of its pain, but when i got back she was eating it.

Thanks DT and you talk a lot of sense considering you keep saying you are not a cat person.

They are definitely fighting to prove who is topdog and neither are giving in that is the problem

Best to look at it pragmatically. She hunted it, she killed it (well, almost anyhow) and then she ate it. Better than leaving it lying around and all that crunching is good for her teeth. Oh, and mice contain a lot of natural taurine...
