Re: Help please!

Middle of August is going to make it 8 weeks? My first piece of advice would be to tell your friend, to allow the kittens to stay with mum until 12 weeks, as this is hugely better for the kittens who are not ready to leave at 8 weeks at all

You should see what your friend will be weaning the kittens onto as fa as food goes. kitten food is not necessary, a good quality cat food will be fine. Most brands in supermarkets are pretty shoddy (whiskas, felix, etc) so you are best looking online at zooplus.com for better quality food. Make the change over slowly so as to not upset their tummy, so keep them on what your friend is feeding for a little while.

You will need a scratch post and a litter tray, and make sure to get your cat vaccinated (should really be done by you friend at 9 and 12 weeks)
You cat will need to be spayed/neutered before 6 months, and if you are planning on letting it out you should wait til it is at least 1 year old (you do not of course have to let it out)

(Also I hope your friend will be getting her cat spayed soon once the kittens are gone? )

Re: Help please!

Well what is best for kittys is 12 weeks 8 weeks is far too young, but unfortunately a lot of people do not know that. luckily you can inform her, and we can provide any information needed. But 8 weeks is too young

Go cat isnt great but you can change her onto something better when you get them. Any litter tray is fine, she should be fully litter trained when she comes to you so its just a case of keeping the litter the same and showing her where to go, and then changing the litter if you choose later on. I use oko plus which I find best for me.

Balls are always fun plus anything with feathers on kittens will enjoy. Again any scratching post should be okay (avoid ones with carpeting as that just shows them that carpet is ok to scratch)

Talking Re: Help please!

dangling toys are great - and can tire them out for bedtime
buy a full size litter tray, they grow quick. and a scratching post
get a grooming brush and start early
my vets give a little booklet on kitten care when you register - really good tips on making them ok with cat carriers - yours may do

i use litter crystals because they dont smell -pricey , but i think its worth it

if you work is it possible for you to get two? theyre company for each other and v funny to watch
oh, and take loads of pictures
