Re: cat cost

When we were looking at food for Cookie I did a quick and dirty cat food cost calculator.

Just fill in all the White fields (Brand, Cost, Weight, Amount fed per day). Dunno if anyone will find it useful. I like to use it to compare different foods.

Re: cat cost

fo my 4 cats it's

£320 per year food
£116 vaccs
£60 flea/worming (they only get done 3 times a year as indoor only)
£130 into the emergancy fund (£2.50 per week average)

soooo add together and divide by 4... £156.50 approx per cat (£626 total)

which is... approx £3 per week or 42p per day per cat!

wow they are cheap!!!

I don't have cat insurance and my cat is 17 this year. . she cost us a lot when we got her spayed etc when she was younger but fortunately *touches wood* she has been an extremely healthy cat . .. but I think when I get any cats in the future they will be insured just because I'm so bad at saving money

What are you feeding your little bundles of fun? £320 a year for 4 cats means £80 a year per cat. Or £6.70 per month on cat food.

A 100% dry diet of something like Orijen, 7 days a week, would cost over £100 a year to feed one cat and a 100% dry diet is not what I want

If I bought the 24 packs of Grau and fed her nothing but that, it would cost me £380 a year ... but that's just for ONE cat You're managing to spend less than that on four!

Are you feeding raw and getting good deals with butchers?

Re: cat cost

I feed a right old mixture lol

1 x 10kilo bag of Royal Canin at my local market is £34 and lasts 3 months

I get Butchers Classic wet food 24 tin packs and a mate at Tesco lets me get dibs on 'damaged' packs where they are a bit dented so that's £5(damaged)-£10(full price) per 24 tins and 1 tin per day between the 4 cats (one heaped table spoon each morning and night approx) so that's approx £8-£12 per month max, they don't get wet fod every day

Raw - also from market - I can get 'pet mix' which is 80% muscle, 10% mixed organs and 10% ground bone at £5 for 3 kilos and I serve either raw or steam it myself

they also get any special offers and the odd rabbit a mate gives me when he's been hunting

Re: cat cost

just to explain my maths

Royal Canin = £34 per 3-4 months so £136 per year average as I am cutting down their dry food

Butchers Tins = £10 for 24 - £10/24=£0.41 per tin, lets assume I feed one every day - 41*7*52 = £151.67

Raw = £5 every 3 months to £20 per year

Total = £307.67 - now obviously there is some variation so I budget £320-£350 for their food

Whats your average week look like then? e.g

Mon: 1 tin butchers between then, xxg of dry food, xxg of raw
Tues: 2 tins butchers, xxg dry, xxg raw
Wed: No butchers, xxg dry, xxg Raw

etc

Would be awesome if we could cut down on food costs, because I am trying to convince my OH to rescue another cat but food costs are her main argument against, because right now, we're spending literally a fortune
