Question about cats eyes

Hello,

Last time I posted was ages ago when we got Stripes. Sadly he's no longer with us but now we have two new kittens. They are rescue kittens from different litters. Pepsi is female and 3 weeks older than Liquorice who is male. My question is about their eyes. I know the pupils get big and small depending on the light but Liquorice always has really small pupils, even in dim light. Pepsi always has large round pupils. They both seem fine but I was wondering if it's anything to worry about? I read that large pupils might mean that the cat has poor vision?

Does anyone know if pupil shape/size gives an indication of cat breed?

Thanks,

K xx

Re: Question about cats eyes

I don't think it has anything to do with breed, all eyes in animals should dilate in low light in order to get the most light.

I would imagine it more points to a problem with his eyes but I am not a vet nor have any training in animal eyes so, take it or leave it.

Re: Question about cats eyes

Their eyes also react to their mood. Big pupils is also excitement, paying attention, fear. That sort of thing. Smaller pupils is relaxed, mellow.

So that might explain eg big pupils in low light but don't know what more knowledgeable people might think

If you are worried you can always call vet and ask what they think...
