Well, it sounds like it We're not doctors though so could not be sure. Could just be hayfever at this time of year

Re: What's wrong with me?

My son has asthma and hayfever and has grown up with cats, yes he suffers mainly with the hayfever but he wouldn't dream of asking us to give Scamp away or the previous two, maybe you will cope or have to accept you can't have cats

Re: What's wrong with me?

Hello and welcome to the forum

It does sound like you are allergic, doesnt mean you cant have a cat though .... My OH is allergic, and he manages quite well. You would need to think hard about owning one .....

A trip to the doc to confirm would be your best bet.

Re: What's wrong with me?

Do the symptoms come on EVERY time you sit near a cat?

How long after first having contact with the cat do you develop the symptoms?

What are all the exact symptoms?

If you remove yourself from the environment with the cats in, how long do the symptoms take to get better?

Do you ever experience the same symptoms in any situations where cats aren't present?

Should be able to tell you for sure if you can answer all those questions

Re: What's wrong with me?

Yes, I reckon so - but here's my big confession - I'm AWFULLY allergic to cats I'm always sneezing, if I touch my face my eyes go like this ---> I'm coughing and itchy and all sorts (especially with long haired cats )

The answer is antihistamines and lots of them I'd rather have infinite sneezes!

Antihistamines are how my son copes, he does have a moan occasionally but he loves cats too much to not have one When he was little and we already had our two cats he didn't really suffer much with the hayfever, that came much later, but he used to curl up with the cats and now Scamp sleeps in his room sometimes so he is obviously ok with him

See I was fine with Dillon (my mums cat when I was little) but it was my aunties Siamese and raggie that made me bad. But it's also horses, hay, sawdust...everything animally really It's funny though because the longer I'm round a puss, like my own, I get less and less affected Is that possible?

It's always interested me xxxx

I think it's possible. I'm dust allergic and I get worse when it's not my home dust

Back to OP's question, maybe a female or a neutered male cat would be better (the allergen protein is testosterone induced) and there are some cat owners that reported that their allergy is less severe with light coloured cats.
