Feeding

My Shadow seems to be going off his food today. He will eat dry food but not the pouch food he has had for months. He seems to just lay around but is alert and when I come home he must hear the car and jumps up onto the window sill to look for me and as I approach the door he is there inside waiting at the door for me. My question is:- Can this be put down to the weather?
He doesn`t look unwell and is hydrated and alert. Any ideas please

Milly Cat is on a distinguished road
Re: Feeding

If you've been feeding the same brand of pouch food for months your cat may be bored of it?

Re: Feeding

Theres me worrying about Shadow thinking is it the heat or is he starting to come down with something and I now realise apart from a couple of people that have responded to this thread, no one elses cats have problems with the heat. Yes you could say I am upset

Re: Feeding

I don't think anyone can say for certain that it is down to the heat that your cat has gone off his food. If his behaviour hasn't changed in any other way then I wouldn't worry unduly especially if he is continuing to eat dry food - just make sure he has plenty to drink.
He may be laying around more and eating less because of the heat but I would keep an eye on him and take him to your vet for a check up if you are really concerned.

Re: Feeding

Awww, I hope Shadow is okay. Percy goes off his food when the weather is hot too, but he'll start eating again in the evening when it's cooler. I think it's because he spends most of the morning in the sun sleeping, so eating is not part of his priorities until sunset. Plus, there's a theory that wet food spoils quicker in the heat, so if your cat is not the type that eats it all in one go...

If this continues on and vet has no idea, maybe try a different brand of wet food, he might be curious enough to eat it.

Thanks for your input kerfuffle
He has got a slightly raised temperature and has been given a long acting antibiotic injection just in case an infection breaks out.
