cat frothing at mouth

Hi... i've just got back in from taking Cho'Gath to the rspca animal hospital to get his vaccinations done.. While i was there the vet applied some advocate spot on, but when i got home i noticed he is frothing at the mouth. The advocate is basically on one of his shoulder blades instead of the lower back of his head. I've read that it isnt toxic, but should i clean it off him anyway?

Re: cat frothing at mouth

he could have tried to lick it off and that is why he is frothing at the mouth but I would still call the vet and tell them as it could be a start of an allergic reaction

Re: cat frothing at mouth

Definitely call the vet just in case as he has just had a vaccine - but it has happened to both of mine at different times when they have managed to lick a spot on flea treatment, apparently it's the bitterness that does it. I gave mine some treats to take the taste away and they were fine.

Re: cat frothing at mouth

i've still not been able to get an answer from them.. though i stopped trying awhile ago, i'm sure it was just when he licked the spot and he's absolutely fine now. He kept forgetting about it and having another lick only for the same thing to happen.. at least he had the good sense to go get some dried food/water after each lick, even if he couldnt resist actually licking it.

Was quite worried when i let him out of the cat carrier only to see that, as i'm sure you can imagine.

What an awfull day it's been for him... First he gets shoved into a box, then it took over 2 hours to make a journey that should take 30mins on the metro cos of a signalling problem... Then into a room full of dogs, one of which was barking like crazy none stop! Finally he gets let out of that hated box, only to have a strange man play with his balls and stick a spike into his neck... then straight back into the box and another trip on the met in the now searing heat, thankfully without delays this time, but including a city centre transfer. Gets home and this happens!

he was such a star though! I elected to sit myself down in between one of the few other cat owners and an extremely well behaved husky. He showed the husky who was boss when it came a little too close to the cat carrier though! Was kinda awesome to see my tiny terror make that massive dog jump out of it's skin haha.
I'd expected him to run and hide when i let him out after arriving home but no.. he really didnt seem to phased by the whole ordeal, was his normal self the moment i let him out (other than the frothing), and went right back to training me up, leading me into the kitchen to his food bowl, then playing with all the energy and happiness he normally does (in between ill fated attempts to wash himself).

Sure earned this
