UTI in male cat.

I think Horris has a UTI.
Ive been watching him the past week as the week before my dad had allowed all the cats out bar Kira which I reamed him out for while I put them all back inside. He let them out several times before.

I wanted to see if his sudden peeing on everything was do to him being allowed out as my dad told me he had seen him peeing outside.

Buts its not stopped so will be booking him in tommarow for an appointment this week.

Hes still eating and drinking.

I have a water fountain for the sole purpose of getting them to drink more but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Have you had to change food at all (thinking about putting them on a good can wet)

Re: UTI in male cat.

Wet food is really the biggest and best change you can make for a cat prone to UTI's. Is he on dry food at the moment?

Re: UTI in male cat.

He is currently on a dry Holistic Brand as my one cat has allergies and this food is the one I changed them on because of her allergies and have stuck to.

Currently carpet cleaning my carpets damn cat has pissed on everything!

But it looks like the all natural can cat food I bought didnt suit my moms cat who vomited the whole thing up.

Re: UTI in male cat.

So your female cat has allergies but the male does not?

if the male doesnt have these allergies I would get him onto a wet diet. I would never advocate an all dry diet for any cat, especially not a boy, and especialy not a boy who is getting UTI's

Some cat food won't suit certain cats, just because your mums cat didnt take to a brand doesnt mean your boy wont. I dont know about the foods available in Canada but with wet food you need to look for the highest meat content (usually around 70-90% can be found)

Sorry to hear about the mess he has made, poor guy.

Ive got four cats in total so trying to make sure one doesnt eat another food is very hard. So I want to switch them onto the same diet as it just makes things more simple.

I feed an all dry diet cause I cannot always be sure that I will be home and I know how animals can get into a rut when they expect their food at a certain time. Besides me and my mother no one else will feed the animals

But if the cats will do better on all wet diet I will have to find a way for them to be feed and for Sophie not to get to their food (having a pretty much opened planned house its sucks not having doors on rooms) Maybe Ill feed them in the basement that way they can eat in private and my moms cat cant make it down the stairs so no need to worry about her getting the food.

I have a water fountain as I read animals are more likely to drink from running water then water thats not moving. But had to take it apart for a few days as it was leaking buts its now running again.

The food I bought does have a high meat content as well as no junk ( meat filler, by products, low ash)

I swear when I have kids theyll eat whats on their plate or they will starve!

Re: UTI in male cat.

Its just frustrating as I took my duvet, my mothers, the dog/cat beds, blankets and everything else he peed on and guess what.....

Hes peed on my mothers and the cat/dog beds again was not impressed.

Maybe Ill make him lug this carpet cleaner up and down the stairs and spend a few hours at the laundry mat

Re: UTI in male cat.

I could be completely mixing you up with someone else MissPuddyCat but didn't you recently get a puppy? If it is you it MIGHT be that he is protesting in his own way against the latest addition. He still needs to be checked out by a vet to rule out UTIs, mind. If it isn't you, then ignore this.

And if it is UTI and not protest weeing, than I don't have anything to add to GM dietary advice (I believe Welless, Nature's Variety etc are good foods over where you are -including loads more).

Re: UTI in male cat.

A new puppy could have brought on a stress-related UTI. Could you not perhaps make the vet appointment earlier? A UTI can be very painful for the kitty. If you have ever had a bladder infection you will know exactly how painful and uncomfortable it is.

I thought she was taking him today?

Edit: You are right, she is phoning today for an appointment this week.

MissPuddyCat, I also would take him in a lot sooner. This has been going on for a while now and needs checking out. Also, has he been neutered?

Nope not mixing me up I have gotten a puppy two months ago, Ive made sure that the cats have a separate area of theirs to go to as well as time away from the pup. His peeing on things only started a week ago around the time my dad had let him out into the back yard.

I have seen Wellness? Ill try a few varieties while weeding out the wet.

He has been Neutered.

I said this week as I was unsure when they would be able to slot us in. Hes got an appointment for tommarow evening as soon as I get off work will be booting it home then straight back to the vets.

It did pass my mind that he might be a little stressed out with the puppy.
