Cool new kittens!

Hi all!

I'm getting 2 kittens next Friday, they should be 7 weeks old by then, I know its a bit soon to be getting them, but the ladies is relocating so she is letting us have them early.
They are eating and drinking and using the litter tray.
Has anyone got any advice on what we need to do to make there home a happy one!

Thanks
Ben

Ouch, 7 weeks! I know you say its too young but thats reeeally too young When is she relocating?

Honestly if you HAVE to get these kittens at this time, I would suggest just being very careful what you feed them so as to not upset their tummies and get them booked in for vaccinations quick.

Re: new kittens!

I had my kitten (rescue kitten) at 7 weeks and I have to say I found it a bit nerve wracking to begin with as she was so small and vulnerable. She's 15 weeks now and doing well, but I don't think it's ideal to get them so young. Is there no way they can stay with their mum a wee bit longer? Is the owner moving a long way away from you?

If there's no way they can stay with their mum longer, I think your first job should be a visit to the vet to get them checked out.

Umm, Ben, I don't mean to be rude, but in your other thread you say:

I thought it would be worth finding a decent forum to ask all the questions I'm defiantly going to have!!

Thanks Ben
How old exactly are these kittens?

Re: new kittens!

Yes the words 'should be' 7 weeks is confusing. They either are 7 weeks, or theyre not...

Honestly 6 Or 7 weeks is far too young to be coming home. I would suggest the lady rehomes her kittens wherever she relocates to and you look for some older kittens... I assume they are moggies so they will be plenty around to choose from.

Re: new kittens!

Ben, given the confusion over the ages of these kittens, it suggests that either the current owners are maybe not being entirely truthful with you or you have read some posts since making your introduction and have realised that 6 weeks is very, very young for kittens to leave their mother and you don't wish to own up to this.

My suggestions would be that you let these kittens stay with their birth mother for longer and that you find some local rescue centres who would be delighted for you to take two off their hands as they are all currently overflowing with kittens and young cats at this time.

Re: new kittens!

please please please DO NOT buy a 7 week old kitten, they NEED to be with mum not only for the milk she supplys them with, with anti bodies in it, but for the valuable life lessons that they will never ever get if they leave now!

They maybe trying out food but they still need about 48ML of mums milk per day Plus their food Im currently hand reaering a litter and they are only 6weeks tommorow, they are eating but if you see the amount it is tiny and the amount of milk we have to give them seems like loads.

they will need to be with mum until 12weeks of age minimium.

personally I dont give a toss where the stupid women is going ITS HER ersponacblity she brought the kittens into this world she bloody well looks after them and provides them with the best left, I hope that you are giving her NO money for these babies either, they should have been wormeed nearly twice by now & vet checked twice before leaving and come fully vac.

instead of lining her pockets and her happy and letting her cat out again to earn her some pocket money, why not leave them make her spend money and raise them and rescue 2 from a rescue? Please tell her this info

Re: new kittens!

Thanks for all the posts everyone, they are 7 weeks old on Friday next week, fat fingers pressed the 6!! Apologies for the confusion there!

They will be 8 weeks old on the 8th of July so we are getting then a week early, the vets is going to be booked on monday ready to take them there straight away to make double sure they are healthy!

I know 7 weeks is a bit early. I have been told they are eating dry food, and the mother is just keeping an eye in them not feeding them.

Thanks

Re: new kittens!

Sorry but its way too young for them to be taught how to be cats. Its not just about feeding, its about health, behaviour, everything.
