Adopting a Kitten - 1000 Questions

Slight exaggeration, it's only really 2 and a half questions But I AM a man

I've had a good read through the kitten buying guide: Buying a kitten - A guide
but I have just a couple of more specific questions and am hoping you knowledgable folks can help me out.

Basically, we've caught the crazy cat people bug after rescuing our first bundle of love (full story in link below)

Late Introduction

We'd really like to add to our crazy cat family ... so, here's my questions:

1) Cookie has had 2 interactions with one other cat in our neighbourhood and both were violent. She's not really a 'big' cat, but there is a BIG tom in the neighbourhood. I went to open the front door and he was there outside. Cookie was behind me and before I could do anything she'd launched herself at him and was swatting him and going hell for leather. He looked scared to death and bolted from our garden with cookie in hot pursuit. 2nd encounter was with the same cat and resulted in much the same thing. She chased him off the garden up to the side of another building and after attacking him for a bit they had a small mexican standoff. Then the big tom hid under a car while Cookie prowled around.

Question: Does this mean that Cookie is NEVER going to accept another Cat / Kitten in the household? Are some Cat's just NEVER going to be social with other cat's, or with a careful introduction do you think this can be overcome?

2) We would want to get a Cat / Kitten from a rescue centre and we know that most of the Centre's round here require a house inspection.

Question: What can you expect from a house inspection? What are they looking out for? It's not that I think we're bad cat owners or have an awful home. But I'd like to be prepared.

Also, is it going to be a problem for a rescue centre that we already have a cat? are they wary housing a kitten in a home with a settled cat? I notice that for the older cat's they tend to state "is good with other cats" but for kittens I'm not sure what the policy is.

I may have more questions later ... I apologise if this is a much covered topic.

Re: Adopting a Kitten - 1000 Questions

slow slow intros are the key - Cookie is just defending her patch so you need to make kitten part of her patch

there are some fantastic threads on intros and scent swapping around somewhere... someone will likely know.

house inspection is basically to check you live somewhere considered 'safe' and are a suitable home - ie no exposed cables, crocodile pits, '100% Cat labled fur coats'...

Re: Adopting a Kitten - 1000 Questions

I don't know much about introductions but I don't remember any stories on the forum where if they started slow that it's didnt work out in the end

I had a house visit by the RSPCA (in the end I didn't get mine from them as they said they don't give kittens to indoor homes). They basically went around pointing out the things that could potentially kill a cat (basically everything ) and then cleared me
