Question Cat's bed

Hiya all,

I have been looking around for cat's bed.. But I dont really know what I should be looking for
Im getting british shorthair kitten later this year and have been starting to prepare myself a little bit.. Beginning with cat's bed..
So as we know BSH get quite large when they grow, does it mean I should be looking for medium/large bed? Obviously when we get a kitten its going to be tiny and I worry "large" bed might be too big for him.. What is the best option to do? Start of with small one and keep changing as cat grows?
Also.. what type of bed should I be looking for? I have uploaded few pics of cat's beds I found online.. Would cat feel safer or more comfortable if I decide to get him fluffy, soft bed? Or would open/basket be enough? Do cats worry about it at all?

Thanks for all your opinions and suggestions! xx

Re: Cat's bed

I would highly highly recommend the beds made by a member on here - Aurelia - it's a bit tricky getting in touch at the mo but her beds are amazing! well worth contacting her and discussing it.

I tried umpty odd styles of bed (maybe £70-£100 ish spent on them over 3 years) and all used for a couple days and ignored.

The beds from Aurelia get fought over! then just a heap of cats on it

Window bed

Squashy Bed

not best one of Indy... but hey...

Re: Cat's bed

How exciting for you getting a kitten.
We have 3 British .
What sex is your Kitten as the females are smaller.
We have various sleeping areas and beds. The picture you can see of Chloe is the latest bed I bought.
I bought it for one of my elderly cats but unfortunately died before he got a chance to use it.
How ever when i got Chloe she started to use it and loves it. It has high sides and so keeps any draughts out and is very cosy. You can get small med or large ( we have medium) and i have checked the label and it just says danish design.

I got my from an ebay shop so if you type in danish cat beds in the search column you will get it

Hiya,
We are getting male (well.. thats what were planning :P ).. which means cat is going to be bigger I really like those beds, they look very cosy and soft Do you think that for male I should be looking for large size? 50cm diameter surely should be enough?

Re: Cat's bed

Oh and would it be fine to get large size bed for a kitten? I would always use some blanket to "reduce" space inside the bed and simply remove it when cat gets bigger.. ?

Re: Cat's bed

Well beds are one of those things that can be a cats be friend of the most ignored piece of furniture in the history of well, furniture!

My old cat Ashley wouldn't sleep in any cat be what so ever. My new kitten Tabitha has an igloo type bed which she used all the time but is a bit big for now. Moriarty used to love a coke box (you know the big ones with 24 cans in?)
but his sister trashed it. I got him an igloo bed and he wouldn't go near it.

I wanted him to have some where he could sleep and get some piece from Tabitha so I kept trying to encourage him in there, to no avail. I ended up taking the cushion out and putting a piece of cardboard in. Now I cannot get him out of it!!!

There are many types of beds available and knowing what they will like can be hit and miss.

Sorry I'm not much help am I!!

Congratulations on the new addition

Em xxx

Re: Cat's bed

We found that the cats sleep whever they want and there's dozens of places around the house that are comfy enough; sofas, dining chairs, beds, window cills, on top of wardrobes etc... We went to Ikea and bought a huge fluffy cushion for the cats, got home and went to drop Joey on it and you'd have though I was trying to drop him in a bath of water. He has never gone near the cushion to this day. I guess they all have their own minds and if you find something that they like it is usually more luck than judgement.

Just pretend you are going to get rid of it. As with kids, that usually is enough to spark a sudden interest

Marlie, here is a link to the beds that Indysmamma was talking about: For Sale: Comfy Pet Beds ~ Second run :D. Aurelia will be back soon. If you don't want to wait another few days then pm me your email address and I will pass it on to her.

I can wholeheartedly recommend them not only for the look but also the design (the top bit fastens with poppers so you can have different ones and alternate) and they are washable. Most certainly not your bog-standard pet beds.
