what to do??

last night gave midnight a treat as she ate all her dinner, after the treat she went absolutly crazy.

climbing all the way up the curtains ( brand new) practically ruining them sh e has a scratch post and knows where it is and what does she do rips my leather sofa's..

im not happy about this at all, just to calm herdown i put her in her room and calms down then found a way to tease the snake..(by popping her head up and down)

what shall i do??? how can i get her to stop ruining things and teasing the snake??

Re: what to do??

Don't mean to sound dense but you make it sound as if this is the first time it has happened and that it appears to be as a result of the treat?

Is it possible that something in the treat is making her a bit hyper?

If the cat has never behaved like this before, couldn't you just not feed her that particular treat? Try and find something else they like that doesn't send them loopy

Re: what to do??

also Midnight is only a kitten isn't she? it's a case of patience I'm afraid they *do* outgrow it.

clipping her claws regularly will prevent her climbing curtains/causing damage

avoid those treats if they make her hyper - try stick to the plain dried chicken treat/tuna strips as no additives reduces hyperactivity

make sure she has things she *can* destroy - couple cardboard boxes from a supermarket maybe...?

I think Indysmamma's advice is probably best for now then! Try and provide her with something to destroy that you don't care about Or, if you can get her attention with a toy while she's going crazy that might work.

Cookie had a similar thing where pretty much every night, without fail, she would spend 30 mins going crazy .... leaping / sprinting around like she was a free-runner or something. She's since been spayed, has been with us a bit longer and is a little bit older now, so thankfully she's calmed down a little!

Re: what to do??

We put some double sided sticky tape on our sofas to stop the kittens sharpening their claws. They then went on to destroy the underside of the sofas and hide up inside......

Re: what to do??

spayed is the female version of neutering - entire uterus and ovaries are removed and so prevents pregnancy and stops the hormone production that causes certain behaviours and mood swings.

can be done generally from 4-6 months depending on weight of kitten and your vet
