one or two that is the question !
Hi everyone
We are getting Gracie ( exotic shorthair ) in a couple of weeks as I explained yesterday , but she has a brother who is also adorable and I'm so torn as to whether or not to have them both. The breeder said it depended on what we wanted from our kitty if it was total devotion just to stick with Gracie ( I love the fact that she is not just trying to make money out of us ) but having looked after my daughters 2 cats for a couple of months we both love having the 2 of them and I can't stop thinking about getting both Gracie and Bertie.....see I've already chosen a name for him! The question is if they have each other will they still bother with us mere mortals , also my breeder says Gracie will favour me more as I'm at home all the time and I know Danny ( husband ) has loved the attention he's had from Emmas cats. Its such a dilemma and I know I'm the only one that can make the decision but would appreciate any input from you lovely cat lovers out there. You would think having looked after 2 of them I would understand the dynamics of our relationship with them but they are outdoor cats for the most part and our babies will be indoor so maybe that would change the dynamics. Gone on at length once again ! Jeanie x |

Re: one or two that is the question !
In March we decided to get a kitten and I asked this question on the forum.
We now have two lovely kittens, who play, sleep and eat together and I am so thankful I asked the question and listened to the answers. Two!!! ![]() |

Re: one or two that is the question !
I have a brother and sister too and would def say go for it
![]() They still want more cuddles and attention than any mere mortal(s) can give and its nice that they have each other. Kittens especially have so much energy it's great that they can tire each other out When Freya was spayed Humphrey spent days following her around, cuddling and grooming her that's what brothers are for ![]() Edit - also indoor cats need a lot more attention and play than outdoor cats so they would def welcome your attention even if you took both

Re: one or two that is the question !
Quite frankly, if you can afford the initial purchase price plus all ongoing extra expenses....it is a no-brainer! Yes, one single kitten may be more devoted to you, but that can become quite a burden if you are prone to guilt ( and cats are very good at guilt). Two littermates will give you and OH one each to snuggle up to and will provide you with endless hours of fun.

Re: one or two that is the question !
I'd also recommend two. I got my two boys last year and they have been a delight. True they sometimes will cuddle up together rather than with my husband or I, but I prefer knowing that they have their brother/buddie with them while we are at work. The best time is when they both choose to be on me
They generally like to sleep under the blankets, curled up with my legs and each other when it's cold. Of course now my husband is a bit jealous so we are thinking of getting two little girls to cuddle him! |

Re: one or two that is the question !
I would consider adopting a single adult cat, but not a single kitten. Especially if, like us, you're both out at work all day. An older cat will quite contentedly snooze the day away in your absence..... an adult cat will babysit a kitten, once they've accepted the interloper's presence..... two kittens will play together and amuse themselves without causing too much havoc.... but one kitten by itself will be bored, lonely, and unbelievably destructive.
