Re: I'm getting kittens & have questions

Hi,
I have 2 female kittens, who i nicknamed "the ladies!" and they are lovely!!

One will come up and sit on my lap, or my OHs lap, whoevers is most comfy at that time, the other one will lay on the floor and she will only come up for a cuddle is she wants to, she has no preference whose lap but she has to decide if she wants a cuddle, hard to believe they are sisters but both lovely!

(im missing them lots at the moment as we got back off hols today and they are in cattery til tomorrow, cant wait to go and get them!!)

Re: I'm getting kittens & have questions

I have spoken to the seller and I will go to view the kittens when they are 6-7 weeks old and will, all being well, make a choice about which two kittens I'd like (but they will be staying with Mum until they're older). She was actually rather accommodating.

In terms of the sex of the cats, I guess what I'm after more than anything is information about which combination tends to be easier/work better in terms of the relationship between the cats? I use the term easy because of my inexperience, not because of an aversion to that which isn't easy. So, is there one combo that, generally, works better than others or am I better off making a judgement call when I go to view the kittens? If it's the latter, what kind of things should I be looking for?

Thanks for reading. I really appreciate any advice that you guys can offer, and I'm sorry if some of these questions seem really daft. I'm just trying to be responsible.

Re: I'm getting kittens & have questions

My belief is same sex works best, but I have no experience as I've only had one at a time. I'm sure most littermates will get on well though!! Perhaps spend half hour watching them play before approaching, and see if there are already "pairs" doing stuff together? Also, remember kitties inevitably choose you, not the other way round, so you may initially like the look of some but go home with another two! Good idea to ask her to keep them until at least 12 weeks

Re: I'm getting kittens & have questions

makes dont raelly have terrortorys but the girls do, once neutered at 4-6months of age you wont have this as they are bondedf for life as brothers, 2 boys Always for me!

also the breeder has to vac them, worm them and have 2 vet checks so you can pick them up at 12-13weeks of age, any younger and they miss out on vital leariung from mum & littermates, I hope that they arent costing you alot of money as they sound like moggies?

Re: I'm getting kittens & have questions

What a caring and responsable pet owner you already are! Congratulations and a very warm welcome to the forum!

I would delay picking up the kittens for a month longer as kittens left without mom at this age can have poor social skills... and as a new cat owner, it could be a handful to deal right from the start.

And I would get a male and a female, just to make it more interesting, to see how they develop differently their personalities. I remember seeing my Ari with her brother in the shelter (who sadly has already been reserved by another family) and they were the sweetest thing together!

They are moggies and they're not costing much (£20 each).
