Absolutely fuming

Someone I know on facebook (not very well might I add) has uploaded photos of his cat's kittens just after she gave birth. . . he's acting all proud like as if it's a good thing she has had these kittens!!!!!!!!!! I AM FUMING. . .some people make mistakes e.g. their cat gets out and becomes pregnant before they've had chance to have them spayed but seriously he is so pleased with it and talking about how he's not keeping them etc. . . .

I posted on it saying "please get your cat done otherwise you will overrun with kittens in no time" if he replies I'm going to put "think of all the cats in rescue centres and the fact your cat basically got raped numerous times to produce them"

I'm normally the person that thinks it's a bit harsh to get mad at people if their cat accidentally has kittens but he really seems like he's proud of it!!! I would be proud and pleased my cat managed through the pregnancy and birth okay but I wouldn't be proud that I've now got kittens to find good homes for

He better get her spayed now that she's had some

Edit: just to add the cat isn't anywhere near a year old yet too. . . must be her first heat cycle

Re: Absolutely fuming

He replied saying he hasn't let her out. . .

so I put

"well a male might have gotten in through a window or she might have gotten out and back in but it's still probably better for her if you get her spayed. . . because she basically got raped (it's really brutal cat sex hahaha) and giving birth can be reeeeally dangerous. . .it can end up costing you thousands of pounds if something goes wrong. . .plus think of all the cats and kittens in rescue centres that haven't got a home and now there's even more that need to find homes. .. I'm not trying to be nasty or to preach because it was clearly an accident and I understand because when I got my cat from a rescue centre they told us she was a boy and we didn't realise how important it is to get them done and she ended up having kittens. . .but it's better for their health and their safety if you get them done don't let her out now for a really long time unless you get her spayed because if she gets pregnant again straight away it might kill her :/ and you have to put your cat first "

I don't want to make him mad and not listen to my advice so I've put it in the nicest way possible but why on earth didn't he get her spayed. . .

I overreacted a bit at the end saying she might die if she gets pregnant again too quickly but I guess the chances of complications would be higher if she did get pregnant quickly

Re: Absolutely fuming

Calm down, take a deep breath.

For starters he's allowed to act all proud. His furby has just had kittens, whether they were planned, accidental or what he's still entitled to be a little bit proud of his kitty.

If you want to educate him being angry won't change his mind. It will have the opposite effect, it will make him take a stance that is not sensible at all.

If you approach the situation in a better state of mind you'll be able to explain what's wrong whilst still complimenting him on his new kittens and preventing it from happening again.

Re: Absolutely fuming

well that's what I've done I've tried to act all light hearted about it just saying how cute they are and stuff because I can see why he would be happy about it. . .it's just I don't want it to happen again. . . he's quite irresponsible really in general. . .so I'm just worried it will happen again

so I've just been nice about it and just given advice and "liked" all the photos haha they are cute little things

Re: Absolutely fuming

And just as a by the way, it's not really a given that the cat got raped to have the kittens. If she was in call, which she would have had to have been to get pregnant, then you can rest asure that she was begging for it! Bum up in the air, feet paddling and tail to one side is a pretty blatant statement that she wants it, so it's like comparing consenting sex in humans to rape, i.e, there is no comparison. I'm not condoning the pregnancy, you understand.

Re: Absolutely fuming

well yes that's true I guess I think I just read too many of these posts on here where people get frustrated when cats haven't been spayed haha i'm no angel it happened to my cat but i just don't want it to happen to his girl again and he also posted a picture of what looked like a boy cat that had gotten into his house so it really isn't his fault apart from the fact he should really have had her spayed buuuuuuuuuuuut these things happen don't they i'm sure he has learned from his mistake anyway

plus the kittens are really cute and all seem to look like their mum

Then, with all due respect Nicola, and in the nicest possible way, if you were not sensible enough to have your own cat spayed before she fell pregnant, you're not really in a position to be giving out about someone else are you?

You learnt the hard way and so will / has this bloke. Hopefully he will see sense now and have his girl done.

You being 'fuming' though really is a case of the pot calling the kettle black....

I know this! buuuut that's exactly why I was trying to give him advice in the nicest possible way because I was just worried he wouldn't actually get her done and think she's safe if he keeps her inside and then it could happen again. . .and so I was just trying to give him a bit of advice for both his and the cat's sake I think he'll be fine though, he likes the kittens a lot so I'm sure he'll find them good homes too I'm more concerned than fuming really

to be honest though it's not ME who let my cat get pregnant because I was a child. . . it was actually really my parents' fault and if they ever get another cat I will be telling them to neuter or spay as soon as possible. . . obviously as a child I didn't even understand where babies came from never mind that you could stop them from having them! So it wasn't me who was "not sensible enough" it was my silly parents who thought. . just like he did that by keeping them inside until they could get them done you'd be safe

I guess some fault is down to the place he got her from because just like my cat they didn't advise him to have her spayed. . . although I guess it was even worse with my cat since they got her sex wrong in the first place!(that happened twice from 2 different rescue centres by the way. . . both my cats I have had were both "boys" when we got them) imagine booking "him" in the get neutered and them finding out it was a completely different operation they had to do hahahaha eeesh

Re: Absolutely fuming

I am waiting for this to happen with my next door neighbour. They have a tom who is about a year old, never got him done as they don't have the money (yet can buy allsorts for the kids, have sky in every room etc) and have just got a female kitten I feel a disagreement coming on.

tell them this

WHY NEUTER?

There are 21,000 reasons why you should get your cat neutered - because that's potentially how many offspring could result from one un-neutered female cat and her descendants in just seven years!

There is a cat over-population crisis in the UK today, which results in 1,000's of healthy but unwanted cats and kittens being destroyed EVERY DAY because there are not enough homes to go round. This sad fact is true also for dogs, and neutering is the only humane answer.

Neutering your cats, male or female, is the best and most humane way of reducing the stray cat population, helping lower the instances of F.I.V. and fight-injuries, and preventing healthy cats from being destroyed.

annnnd

"For many people, neutering their pets is simply too expensive, but DON'T PANIC - help is at hand! If you are receiving benefit, are a pensioner, or are on a low income you can get low-cost, and sometimes even no-cost, neutering as follows:
CATS PROTECTION Neutering Vouchers:
CP Vouchers cover roughly half the cost of the average neutering / spaying charge. You can apply directly to any Cats Protection branch or shelter, who keep a supply of vouchers, or phone their national Helpline on 03000 12 12 12. You may be asked to fill in an application form and provide a copy of the cover of your benefit book to obtain the voucher. You will need to take the voucher to the vet when getting your cat neutered, and all you pay is the remaining balance. Cats Protection often have special FREE and £5 neutering offers – check for offers in your area: CP Neutering offers. Details of your local Cat Protection branch can be found by choosing your area from the drop-down menu below.

RSPCA Neutering Vouchers:
Low-cost neutering vouchers are available from most RSPCA branches. Contact your nearest branch, or if you don't have a branch near you, call their national helpline on: 0300 1234 555. Details of your local RSPCA can be found by choosing your area from the drop-down menu below.

PDSA PetAid Hospitals and practices
PDSA PetAid offers free veterinary treatment for pets of those in receipt of certain benefits. Eligible clients of PDSA are offered reduced price neutering. For more information about eligibility, call freephone 0800 731 2502 or log onto PDSA - Home Page - Find your nearest PSDA PetAid hospital or PetAid veterinary practice here: Who can PDSA help?

INDEPENDENT RESCUES Low Cost Neutering:
Many independent rescue groups will help with neutering costs, or have arrangements with local vets for low cost neutering. Don't be afraid to ask, they all have the animal's welfare at heart. Details of your local independent rescue can be found by choosing your area from the drop-down menu below."

that is from Reasons to get your Cat Neutered, and where to get Low Cost Neutering and the drop down menu it speaks of is on there too
