Re: Kitten frenzy every night
Would suggest that in the half hour or so before you go to bed you play with your kitten - throw balls or whatever up and down the stairs and use a wand toy to have him running around and tire him out. Also when you go to bed leave some interactive toys out for him to keep him occupied and perhaps a treat ball with some treats/dry food in it which he has to work to get out.

Re: Kitten frenzy every night
my suggestions would be either:
half hour to hour *heavy* play before bed - da bird type toy etc, high energy and tire him out followed by a large meal a second kitten is a good idea if possible for you as they will play together instead of him needing imaginary play - aka destruction |

Re: Kitten frenzy every night
We leave our boy's toys out at night, but we play with them for a half hour before bed-time, and they get fed right before as well to help them get sleepy. They both pretty much sleep through the night, only get up to eat/go toilet at around 5 am. Benji does start playing at around 6.30 though, but that's the time I get up for work anyway! They have each other to chase around like the house like looneys during the days so it keeps them calm at night

Re: Kitten frenzy every night
As others have said, a good workout before bedtime .... laser toys are good for this, I have Molly running from one end of the flat to the other chasing the light!
My other thought is he is still quite young, so pushing the boundries still He will learn, in time, that bedtime is bedtime. Molly was a right madam at that age, admittably not quite as bad as your young man! She now knows that once we are in bed, if she wants to stay with us, she has to cuddle up and go to sleep .... if she wants to play, then she is sent out of the bedroom to go and play with her toys, she has even learnt that if she is particularly boisterous that she will be shut out of the bedroom .... she hates this We still have off days, I have been known to still get up to be with her at 3am, but these are few and far between.

Re: Kitten frenzy every night
When people come onto the forum to ask the question "Should I get one kitten / cat or two?" I ALWAYS give the same answer - "Get two as they will play with each other, keep each other amused and prevent possible destruction through boredom......"
I'm not saying this is DEFINITELY the problem but I think there is a high chance that it may be. Also, as Missye says, feeding right before bed-time can also help.

Re: Kitten frenzy every night
sounds like a totally normal kitten, imagine 5 of them
please do not use water to spray him, it will make him scared of you not water he prob stops doing those things so its builds up all night. Can you keep him in one room with a cat tree lots of toys food water? Neutering takes a few months to work, but he is a kitten...thats what they do, but it does get easier! ![]()

Re: Kitten frenzy every night
I was told once that it takes a few weeks for their bodies to re-adjust to being neutered. Not sure if this is right but I am sure someone else on this forum may give better advice.
Welcome to the forum.

Re: Kitten frenzy every night
Hi,
When we first got Alfie we limited his access at night to our bedroom, the hallway and the bathroom for his litter tray. Then put some NON NOISY toys in the bedroom to keep him occupied... after a few weeks we started to open up rooms for him and let him start to get free run and this seemed to limit his running around.... he still has mental moments now and will suddenly start flying around knocking things over and all we do is shut a door to let him calm down, encourage him with some toys and then open the door again. He just gets over excited. Em x |
