Re: unfair?

Reposting.... I wonder why

Letting cats outside is a matter of opinion.

Letting intact cats outside is NOT a matter of opinion and is disgusting and irresponsible.

As for taking away their gender, what a load of tosh. If a woman has a hysterectomy, does it make her less of a woman?? If a man has a vasectomy, is he no longer a man.

These are VERY ignorant views and I am not surprised that the forum is now full of them.

Re: unfair?

I had always let my cats outside unsupervised until last October. I was up in the UK for a week visiting my parents and my beloved cat Bruno was knocked down and killed on the (not at all busy) road near our house. He was just shy of his second birthday. I adored him completely and wondered how I'd ever go on without him. It was my second day away and my husband was in charge, but at work. My in-laws were around but still no one could have prevented what happened. Everyone was devastated because he was a real character and all the neighbours loved him. I wanted him to "live life to the full", but how can a life be full when it's over before it's begun? True, I let my elderly cat out in the sun, but she is worldly-wise and never, ever strays from the garden. I have no fears whatsoever for her. My new baby, Simba was allowed out into the garden if I was also outside, until he disappeared and my sister-in-law said she had just seen him crossing the road. That was the end of that. I take him out on his lead, otherwise he stays in. He's a Turkish Van, so very full-on and I have to keep him entertained, but there is no way I would let him out on his own. Dogs aren't allowed out on their own to roam the streets, so why should it be okay for cats to be? It's a lovely feeling, when I go out, to know that my babe is safe inside the house.

It does not take away their gender. They are still girls, just healthier and less at risk.
what some people dont realise also if a cat is left unneutered and is an outdoor cat, they are more like to fight and stray and so they can pass on disease like leukhemia and aids.
