Preparing for a neuter....

*gulp* Am so nervous about Baxter's neuter tomorrow (it was supposed to be today but i forgot to starve him last night!!)

All 3 of my kitties eat together, and i'm not sure what to do tonight as i have to starve Baxter from 8pm......? Should i not feed the other two after this time as well and just put more food down in the morning as i am leaving with Baxter?

Its difficult to separate them as we live in a bungalow with limited room and all rooms 'interlink' together. Also, Baxter likes to graze with his biscuits (he doesnt like wet of any sorts!) so he kind of eats all night! Barney will not eat unless Baxter and Audrey are there too ??

Re: Preparing for a neuter....

awww bless you, we all worry when its time to neuter, i have made myself feel sick in the past, but thankfully things have allways gone well.
you could feed them all early, ????? then in the morning feed the others when you get back from dropping baxter off at the vets,

Re: Preparing for a neuter....

With mine, if one has to be starved for an op, then they ALL have to suffer It is a worry though because as mine are used to grazing, they do not realise thats their last meal for a while, and I want the one who is having the op to eat properly. I always make sure that tea is a firm favourite treat that everyone enjoys and wolfs down. Then the rest get their breakie when the one going for an op is safely in their basket.

I wouldn't do that with Barney though, he needs regular meals to help build him up. Is there nothing special they all love, chicken, beef, fish ? Something you know that Baxter will clear his plate. Then maybe have him in your bedroom and leave the other two with food all night, take that and their water up when you let Baxter out in the morning. Then put the water and their breakie down when you have poor Baxter secured.

I hate leaving them for an op, but I am sure he will be fine, we suffer more with the waiting. The boys I've had done recently don't seem to notice. They are more interested in making up for the lost meals for the day

Re: Preparing for a neuter....

I would do that too Rachel, feed them all early, then take all the dishes up. Then once Barney is at vets feed the others after he has left. Done that several times and its worked ok

Re: Preparing for a neuter....

Thanks everyone - that sounds like a good plan

I think i must have the worlds fussiest cats....Baxter will not touch any meat or fish of any kind and i have tried everything...... Barney will not eat unless Audrey and Baxter are there with him and Audrey will not eat anything other than raw chicken and mince...oh and a bit of turkey last night!!

I have wet food of all kinds sat at home......Animonda, Carny, Applaws, Whiskas, Hi-Life, Feline Fayre, Denes, tins of tuna and other various fish in spring water and tomato sauce!! Gah the list goes on. Should i donate this to the RSPCA or something similar?
