Proposing a Campaign

Hi all hope you have had a good day.

After reading this forum cover to cover I have become quite disappointed in the number of accidental cat pregnancies and stories of breeding for the sake of cute kittens or to experience the miracle of birth.

I have decided that I want to do something to help prevent this sort of thing from happening.

This thread is to share ideas on how this can be achieved or for suggestions and advice. I don't want this to turn into arguments.

I'm sorry if anyone feels this violates free speech that isn't my intention please feel free to do this on another thread. I only want to help animals and not have this shut down by mods for arguing as that won't help anyone.

So the proposal is as follows (and I know this is going to be VERY hard).

1. To make Neutering a requirement under the law.
2. To make vaccinations a requirment under the law.
3. To make sure animals are micro chipped.
4. To ensure that breeding is done ethically and responsibly. (As it is for pedigrees)
5. To shut down back yard breeders (yep I know this will be impossible but why not try anyway)

I know this seems an impossible task. It is going to be hard but I have to try. I also thought we could start here on the forums with the following:

A sticky thread on accidental pregnancy to offer help not judgment for new mums to be. Including advice on birthing, what they need for birth, homing the kittens, information about spraying after wards and the benefits and pro's of doing so.

I'm no expert in any of these matter but I know a lot of you are and would welcome any advise, suggestions and help any of you are willing to offer.

lets start there and see how we go.

Thanks all and lets make a difference!

Re: Proposing a Campaign

Emma - Jayne, you are going about this all the wrong ways

I propose we vote for the introduction of a law where only people with average IQ's can have cats. Any people who are too pig ignorant to brush their own teeth should not have bloody animals.

Never mind spay cats, bloody spay humans who shouldnt be reproducing these utter idiots.

Case in point in cat breeding at the moment.

That would be brilliant but that would limit adoptions to about 8% of the population (just kidding everyone)

Re: Proposing a Campaign

Good shout Emma-Jayne.

How about a standard letter that can be easily downloaded and sent to our MP's. People aren't so keen to write their own letter but if there is one that can be just printed off and signed, there is a better chance folks will take 5 mins to do it.

The letter can state the points that you have put in your OP and ask for tougher measures to be put in place or an amendment to be made to the Animal Welfare Bill to accomodate tighter restrictions regarding cat ownership.

Excellent, brilliant this is exactly what suggestions I need. I'm going to read through the animal welfare bill to see what it says.

Thank you.
