Re: Proposing a Campaign

I have just seen on Kelly-Joys recent post that the new government petitions site is now up and running (at last!)

So I'll be starting the campaign as soon as the children go home next week.

Thanks everyone for your support so far and look forward to working to get this legislation brought in.

Let's make a difference

Re: Proposing a Campaign

I don't want to be a killjoy, but on the subject of epetitions in general.

Even for those that reach the magic 100k signature level there are limited spaces for parliamentary debates on them and even then would almost certainly depend on 'x' number of backbenchers giving up their chance of introducing their own private members bill to make room. I'm cynical enough to believe no MP would willingly do so as a PVM is probably their only way of proving to their constituents they actually do something/or mean giving up their moment in the spotlights.

The odds on a epetition actually being allowed to *force* a debate in parliament on anything but a topic the govt (of either colour) isn't guaranteed to win/won't get headlines in their favour, are astronomically high imo.

Re: Proposing a Campaign

Im not sure how you would impliment all that tho I reken licencing should be made standard. anyone who gives a hoot about their pet wont mind buying one.

In my ideal world you have to buy a licence to own a cat or dog etc and to get a licence (maybe from the vet?) you need to have them jabbed/neutered/chipped (unless a reputable breeder) and ongoing vet care to obtain one. anyone without a licence gets a hefty fine and animal removed... Im sure years ago you DID have to have a licence to own a dog.

Bit like cars I spose! and yes I know pets arent possesions... but then this prob wouldnt even work coz people dont bother to tax etc their cars.

Maybe we should just line up and shoot all the scum instead LOL

ETA: And licencing fees should go back into the animal care world, like CPA and RSPCA type places

A lot of people on this thread would seem to agree. But I feel like I have to try something to stop these problems rather than just complain about them. This is something I am going to work on as much as possible to raise the minimum standard of care for animals.

Not everyone out there is like the good people here, and we need to point out to them whats in the best interests for the animals even if it's just education about chipping, spaying vacinations fleing and worming.

Also this is a campaign not just a petition. I have a lot of plans to take this topic forward in other ways too.

The forum of public opinion can be a strong one and just raising awareness of the issues could be just as much a result as laws being changed.

I know this will be difficult I have said that throughout but there is no harm in trying.

Thanks for posting,

Emma-Jayne
