Cat proofing the garden

Can anyone give any advice about cat proofing a garden. After a close shave with a car, I want to make sure this does not happen again. Squeak is going stir crazy indoors at the moment and goes out with supervision only. How much does cat proofing cost and who are the best suppliers? Thx

Re: Cat proofing the garden

we are the best suppliers.. i would say that. there are a few systems you can look at. the top two being katzecure, and felisafe, there is also secur-a-cat but we have removed one of the secur systems and replaced it with felisafe after it was bent by the snow... theres also purrfect fence but we dont really like the system asthetically. you could also consider making our own home made system but it wouldnt be my choice when it comes to the saftey of my cat. our website lists prices for the main two systems per meter so you can work out a guide price and we would be happy to come and have a visit for advice and a quote.

Re: Cat proofing the garden

We have cat proofed our garden.
Do you have 6 foot fences up already?
If you have then it will be easier and won't cost so much.
We had some metal elbows made and we got some pond netting and attached it to the metal elbows. we strengthened the netting with more wire threaded through. I think you can get better stuff then pond netting but we had to do a quick job 'cause one of ours got lost for 6 weeks and never want to go through that again
Have got some pics for you to see.

The goldleaf fencing looks very good and maybe in the future for us. We have a big garden and might cost a lot to do it.

Where we got our last kitten from she had goldleaf fencing up and she had made half her garden enclosed with it. so that's another idea.
Hope that's given you some ideas.

Jill - thanks for posting those pictures. This is something we are looking at doing as the cat insists on climbing over the back wall.

How big are the metal brackets? I.e. how far into the garden do they protrude?

The only thing that puts me off doing more cat-proofing is that I know she will take one look and find a sneaky way past if we don't do it properly.

Re: Cat proofing the garden

... and don't forget that out little darlings are capable of digging *under* fences too. My current efforts are to prepare the existing fencing and garden for something like felisafe, but there is so much to think of - gaps, soft earth, overhanging trees, new shed (old one is too easy for go up and over), etc.

If you can afford it, go with someone who does the whole thing, like them blokes up there ^^^ but I am going it alone ;-)

Re: Cat proofing the garden

Our garden has brick walls around it, both neighbours have patios and there are garages behind. I will keep my eye out for a vaulting horse in the back garden.
