Barnbos is on a distinguished road
Chinchilla eye staining

Hi,

We have just got our two Chinchilla kittens and although we wipe under their eyes several times daily due to only slight running eyes, the local fur is staining.

Is there anything safe out there that we can use to help with reducing the staining?

Thank you.

Diluted optrex what we use for our eyes is meant to be safe for wiping there eyes. Or you can buy eye wipes that will reduce the eye staining. They are available from most good pets stores/retail

Re: Chinchilla eye staining

The person you need to pm about this is Angeli, she is our resident Chinny expert. I have persians myself and various techniques of stain removal. To start with you need to be bathing the area every day with makeup removal pads soaked in boiled cooled water.

This is not always adequate with light colours, there are ways of 'packing' the stained area with optrex and certain cleansing powders. Talk to Angeli first though because she has the same breed as you do

Mine was a cream point but his eye staining was always there its some times hard to get rid of completely as my cats eyes always ran .His eye area would some times be a bit orangey looking. Mind you i didnt show i suppose its not so bad unless you plan to show.

I started out with colourpoint persians and had big problems getting them ready for shows, have tried just about everything. Its good to keep on top of it but like you said not quite as serious as when the cat is being shown.
