Re: pro plan for house cats/indoor cats

what are the ingredients?

I'm not keen on dried food in general for cats, but some are better than others. You should probably avoid those that contain corn, wheat, soya and artificial colours/preservatives, as those things are most likely to cause allergies. i was looking at the Royal Canin range earlier today and was a bit shocked at the amount of corn & wheat in most of the foods.

Agree, Royal Canin isn't all it's hyped up to be, in fact it's cack in my opinion. Maize is also an ingredient to avoid.

Orijen is the best dry food in my opinion, 70% meat, 30% fruit and veg, no grains/cereals.

The price is ridiculous though. The worst, most negative experience I've had in owning a pet is the way these manufacturers seem to think they can sell you crap for cheap or normal stuff and charge the earth.

Look at the price of Orijen: £15.50 for 2.5kg. For that money, I can buy about 10kg of fresh meat and some fruit and veg.

Well you get what you pay for with Orijen which is more than can be said for most commercial foods. Orijen doesn't work out any more expensive to feed than other "top brands" because they eat less of it; it's highly digestable due to the quality ingredients and low temperature processing. That said I don't feed commercial foods anymore, I feed raw meat and bones.

lol..that almost seems like a contradiction. If it's highly digestible...surely they'll digest it quicker and be hungry sooner thus eat more of it? Or maybe I'm wrong...

Re: pro plan for house cats/indoor cats

lol

I use orijen but it lasts ages as I do a mix of raw, dry and wet. I buy Bozita from Zooplus and ALL of it gets eaten - none left! So it works out cheaper.

If you go fully raw you need to be sure that all the minerals, vitamens etc are actually available to them.

I would like to go raw but know I don't have the time or patience at the moment to do it.
