Cats & Dogs - Friends or foes?

Just wondered how many people in this section have both cats and dogs and how they get along.

My GSD Luika, is now 6 1/2 months old and one of my cats , Melody torments the life out of him She loves sitting in our basket under the coffee table and slapping him when he walks by. Usually he takes it in good fun, but the other day she drew blood, the little minx.

I am seriously considering buying poor Luika a helmet!!!

Does anyone else have these problems, and if so, how do you deal with them?

My parents have a GSD and a Moggie cat and they get along great! Kia (the GSD!) loves cats, she is more relaxed and comfortable around them than she is other dogs.

I take my Kittens round to my parents quite often and Kia loves playing with them

We have a Rhodesian Ridgeback, he is fab with the cats, even takes on washing duties of any kittens we have, lol.

Re: Cats & Dogs - Friends or foes?

My dogs and cats (luckily) all get on really well. Sometimes Lily the pup likes to sit and bark (a friendly one) at the cats as they are looking at her from high up. They seem to have a smirk on their face!! It is rather amusing.!!!!

Hope I've quoted that ok...my 1st time trying that

Bee, hope I don't sound stupid asking this but...I've never taken Taz to someone elses house as always wondered like where would he go to the toilet, eat etc etc. You say your parents have a cat so do your kittens share 'its' stuff?? I ask because my parents are only round the corner but I never take Taz as I just thought he's better off at home with his own stuff, and what would I do if he needed the loo?

Yes my parents have a cat too, Alfie & Lola love going round there, they know where the litter tray is so they have no problems with that.

My parents Moggie Nemo loves playing with kittens as does Kia..

I can imagine some cats not liking going into another house but my 2 seem to enjoy it, soon as they get there they make themselves at home

I have taken them round since they were little so they dont know any different.. depends on your cats temperment aswell.. Alfie & Lola or more like little dogs than cats!

I take both my dogs to my Mothers house whom has a resident cat. When they get there the first thing they do is go and check the cats dish and clean it up lol

Re: Cats & Dogs - Friends or foes?

We have a dog and two cats. One of the cats, the male, gets on very well with the male dog (the males of both species are castrated). However, the female cat absolutely hates the dog, who seems to have no idea why!

Re: Cats & Dogs - Friends or foes?

I have 2 dogs, and 2 cats. They get along fine. One cat, Rigsy, she ignores the dogs, and the other, Lucky, is the boss, and can get the dogs off the sofa for himself with just a look

No fights or arguments though.

Re: Cats & Dogs - Friends or foes?

Perhaps with time, when Luika calms down a bit, they will all become firm friends.

Ed really does want to make friends but all Luika wants to do is play. I honestly do not believe there is any evil intent with pup. Can't say the same for Melody though
