Re: Going down under with or without cats?
If you have spoken to others who's cats have settled fine, go for it
![]() I'm sure the cats will get used to the climate, they are very resilient. I'm sure you will regret not taking them if you chose not to, as they are such a big part of your lives. Hopefully another member on here has personal experience, but I say take the kitties ![]()

Re: Going down under with or without cats?
I agree with everyone else, as long as they are in good health go for it, you may regret leaving them behind and this could overshadow your move and may ultimately make you wish you hadn't gone. Practicalities I can't help with as never moved mine far, it is a long journey but I am sure your vet will have some good advice and may allay your fears. Others on here may have done similar to what you are considering and have more useful advice, good luck

Re: Going down under with or without cats?
I would take them, they are highly adaptable, my only advice re native animals is research your soon to be new home, find a forum with people living in that area and talk about potential risks around there.
maybe look at harness training? it's a great way to introduce your kits to a new patch and you can teach them about the wildlife... and surprisingly easy to do. |

Re: Going down under with or without cats?
Emigrating will be stressful enough - if you don't bring your cats you will probably regret it hugely at a later time. I would definetly bring them with you, they are very adaptable - I imagine they will be fine in their new home

Re: Going down under with or without cats?
I would say take them too.
Climate-wise where I am now the temperature ranges from -20 in the winter to +35 in the summer and you see the same animals out all year round with no problems. They adapt just fine. One month quarantine is nothing. I had to put my cat in a cattery for 2 months over the summer and she came out like nothing had ever happened, just overjoyed to see me. I know I couldn't bear to leave my animals behind anywhere and will be taking a cat home with me from Slovakia to the UK when I finish uni. ![]() |

Re: Going down under with or without cats?
They are young cats so should handle the journey, quarantine and upheavel pretty well. I am sure you can do some internet research and see if cats are generally out door pets in that area or not....a lot depends on local wild life for example. I would have thought that properties would be larger than uk so more space for mogs, and maybe screening on windows and doors is common if ou were thinking of keeping them inside.

Re: Going down under with or without cats?
Thanks guys. I'll do some more research on wildlife. Should I have to keep them inside I would rather rehome them as they are hunters and imo should not be denied outdoors.
They are all over me, my hubby and wee one (3) as if they know.... strange! |
