Re: Hello! Scottish Fold wanted!
I own a scottish fold - she is healthy. Has no problems at all. She is a gorgeous cat, very friendly and amazing company.
She came from a reputable breeder in surrey that also breeds british shorthairs. As when u breed a scottish fold with a british shorthair they do not inherit the skeletal problems. But u can also get variants of this breed with 'uppy' ears. |

My girlfriend is looking into getting a Scottish Fold but is being very cautious due to the health issues.... Can you tell me the breeder you used in Surrey as we would be very interested in talking to them.... Many thanks Ike |

Re: Hello! Scottish Fold wanted!
I'd never heard of that breed before, just googled it....they do look erm a tad odd
Feel quite sorry for them, seems a bit wrong to breed a deformed cat & create a breed from it.Anyhow each to their own and all that hope you manage to find a good breeder. |

Re: Hello! Scottish Fold wanted!
Scottish Folds have an inherent cartilege mutation which is what makes their ears fold forward (kittens are born with "normal ears") which is why they may get orthopeadic problems later in life, but it isn't guarenteed. It is important if you DO get a Scottish fold that you make sure to keep their weight in the healthy range to minimise the risk of such problems as it reduces the weight bearing on the joints. They tend to get arthritis as the cartilege in the joints wears away (as it is abnormal to cause the folded ears) - much like osteoarthritis in humans. It then causes pain and swelling in joints.
Only one of the parents will ever be a Scottish fold with a Scottish fold pairing, as you can't mate two Scottish folds as the double mutation in a kitten will be too much and could cause severe problems. - taken from "things I learned from my books and TV" - lol Last edited by KittehNom; 06-07-2011 at 12:02 PM.. |

Re: Hello! Scottish Fold wanted!
There are a few breeders in the UK that I know of but not sure if they are still breeding Scottish Folds (I doubt you will find munchkins). You can add sheephouse.co.uk and samkamlees.co.uk to your list.

Quote:
Below is a hypothetical situation.... Almost all cats were kept outside. I was not allowed to see any cats except the kitten I went to look at, and the parents were brought in from somewhere else to show me. The kitten was brought in in a carrier cage, with a urine soaked towel and a chicken leg. Its bum was filthy. I have spoken to breeders in the area and from what they said, she doesnt go to the shows herself, other people take her cats to the shows for her so she is not very involved in the circuit. I am not saying there is anything about that, and obviously she produces some good cats if they win shows, but it was not the friendly environment I would want to buy a cat from. She also tried to rush me into buying the cat, told me if I didnt take her the people coming after me would. Honestly, considering that is considered at the height of raggie breeding, I would call BYB anyday.
