a question for peeps with indoor cats..

Hey,

Just wondering if any of you have ever had one of your inddor cats escape?

I live in a flat at the moment so if one of them escapes through the door they are straight into a short corridor so they come straight back in lol

When I get a house next year I'll worry incase one of them gets out as someone comes in through the door.

How do you prevent this from happening and more inmportantly - has it ever happened?!

None of mine have ever escaped. You just have to be careful. Mine know they can't get out so they don't! I carry them into the cat run. They know the back door leads to the run but they sit and wait their turn for me to take them. Very well behaved and trained are my cats.

yes and when she got out she was hit by a car. but it was a new place we moved into and the old cat door wasn't locking properly. now it's fixed and i don't think they can get out!! I used to keep a plastic bag to shake at the door to shoo them away. the next house we had an air lock sort with a door to the outside and a door to the house with a hall between. this was very helpful.

Hi....My eldest cat Shoni has never escaped but my tomcat Simba tries to whenever possible....He will even push windows open....Not good in summer as i could not bear it if anything happend to them,However last year we moved to a bigger house with a large fenced garden with big trees in so now if he escapes he goes there where i can see him and fetch him back in without having to worry about him getting lost,or stolen...or run over.....He at least has the sense not to go out the front though which is lucky.....

None of my cats have wanted to go out but one day Daisy jumped through an open window and jumped straight back in she was shocked i think , as they were ferels and never been indoors till we rescued them, im sure she thought she would have to stay out for ever and her soulmate was indoors, it was quite funny really as oh was sat at comp and she jumped back in all over him, none even bother now if doors are open

Re: a question for peeps with indoor cats..

Our cats hate to stay indoors because we havent had them long enough anyway! We just have to be really careful with the front door. Daisy often tried to have a nosey but hasnt gone out yet!

Re: a question for peeps with indoor cats..

I intend for mine to be indoor cats and so far they haven't gone out on their own.

Having said that Sooty escape twice yesterday and almost a third time. Fortunately he only went into the side and back garden.

My exterior doors are usually locked, no windows are open except the kitchen window which leads to their outdoor pen. I have to have a good idea where they are at any one given time in case someone calls.

I prefer to use the front exterior door for visitor because I can close the doors leading to the kitchen and lounge.

Hands up it is a nightmare when someone calls at the side door, two hands three pets, never much good at maths but 2 into 3 definitely doesn't go.

The play pen is a god send, if the kittens are in their pen I can easily close the window to keep them secure while I open the side door.

I have a routine when someone calls, "just a minute, (meaning several), Duke bed. Sooty Sweep shut behind a door or window." Absolutely knackered by the time I answer the door - with a smile "sorry about that." before telling them to shove off in a nice way because they are selling something. D
