when we first got smudge we kept her in untill she was old enough to get her spayed my boys took her out in the garden to play (they used a puppy lead and collar) she's 3 years old now and wont go out of the garden never has.
she stays in at night and still uses a litter tray. |

Re: a question for peeps with indoor cats..
I hope your cat never escapes. I have two cats and and unfortunetly, one of them did run away last christmas (on the day!
) It was terrible. Three weeks later and he was found! Hurray! I wouldn't say there are any ways to prevent your cat running away - just be careful! Our cat was always very eager to get outside and explore. He got his wish, and you'd think his fascination would have gone. But oh no. He still tries to get outside, so we are very careful. Just watch out whenever you open any doors as with our cat, he's always ready and waiting. |

Re: a question for peeps with indoor cats..
Yeh my 2 are always waiting for me when I come home, Alfie just sits ther but Lola runs into the corridor sometimes as she is very inquisitive and nosey! Just when I get a house next year I'll have to get some sort of double door/porch thing on it

Yes, my kitten got out of the window one day. I didn't see her go out, and I automatically thought she was playing her regular game of Hide and Seek, so went searching the house for her. After about ten minutes of looking with no luck, I figured I better check outside, so I went up and down my street checking in all the neighbours gardens, only to find her in my own back garden playing on tree logs that had been chopped down the day before.
My little girl has a great interest in the outdoors, as she's regularly taken out for walks on her harness by myself, but I've now got her trained to know that the back door is for walkies and the front door is where strangers come in. Therefore, whenever someone comes to the door she'll come to the door for a nosey, but not go outside. She still likes to try to get out of windows, though, whenever she sees a juicy-looking bug or bird fly by. Can't really break that habit. ![]() |

Re: a question for peeps with indoor cats..
I'm really lucky, my 2 boys are, to an extent, obedient, if I say no, they understand to stop whatever they are doing, Harry would never run away from me, so he is easily caught, and Bailey is like that too, all of mine are indoor cats, I let the 2 boys out into the garden when I'm there, I don't need to be prised ready to dive on them, I can sit at table and relax, they come and go, in and out the house, they just like having a wander in garden, sniffing things, chewing grass, sunning themselves, Bailey needs to see that the door is open so he has a clear path to "safety" neither of them would dream of trying to scale the fence, my other 2 are girls, Ratto doesn't like outdoors at all....she's very timid, and Jura is only 8 months old, no way in hell would I trust her outdoors, she's so fast, plus she is to be a queen, so unless we move house and get a secure cat run, she won't be seeing ourdoors anytime soon!
Occasionally Harry has jumped out the front door onto the door step, Bailey has done this too, but they just want a nose, they have never run off, they just slink about my feet rubbing, then come back in, I don't think I'll ever get another 2 boys/cats as well behaved as that 2!
