Exclamation cats nails

Do any of you have a problem cutting your cats nails ? two of my cats hate it Ash is the worst though, she scratches and screams it's terrible and very traumatic for her, and my hands are shredded and bleeding .....we have even tried holding her with a towel that's not working either

Re: cats nails

I haven't, nor would I.. Because I wouldn't feel confident that I wouldn't hurt them. Mine have never needed them doing though

Re: cats nails

Some cats really don't like having this done - it can help if you try to do it while they're asleep - you might only get a couple of claws done each time though!
Another thing I've heard about is using clothes pegs (the spring clip type) - you put the pegs on the cat's scruff and going a bit further down the back, using about 3 or 4 pegs - this is said to make them keep very still and allows you to pill them, clip claws etc..... Haven't tried it myself though.
I did come across a vet journal article about this, but unfortunately haven;'t kept the link.

Re: cats nails

I have to wet the paws on my cats before I cut their nails due to them having long tufts inbetween that would get in the way. Usually it's done just after a bath for a show, the cat is less likely to put up a fight then. It's still a struggle with some of them though.

Im not a hundred percent sure on this but someone mentioned that cats won't be vetted in if they aren't clipped (I havent seen a vet checking any of mine though???). Would also lose points when judged - correct me if wrong please.

Re: cats nails

Now you can all have a laugh and picture me doing one of my girls, I grip her fur on her neck in my teeth, same as the mother does, she then relaxes and I'm able to clip her claws, it's the only way she allows me to do it. lol
