Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

Just phoned up to make an appointment...and basically didn't like the attitude of the pompous pillock at the other end, vet or not. For being such an "intelligent" person he seemed to have forgotten that only knuckle-draggers can't be bothered with politeness and good manners. Chav vet with a posh accent? I wouldn't be surprised. Well anyway...should I trust an idiot such as this and give him (extort) my money?

Are your vets polite? Or are vets genberally like traffic wardens...obnoxious *****?

NAME AND SHAME!!!
i hate nasty vets and horribly mannered staff!!! mad:
clients and pets come first even if they can be a bit difficult customer should always be right and it's our job as staff to look after the animal even if the owners are the nicest or are annoying.

I wouldn't trust a rude and arrogant vet or doctor come to that.

... and I have good reasons too.

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

I have to say that I prefer a vet to have a good 'bedside manner.' I too have come across some very arrogant vets in my time. It is important to me that I can get along with the person that is treating my pets and that we have a good relantionship and understanding.

I have been with my current vet for over 15 years and we have a good relationship, to the point where if I bring one of my pets in who I say is off colour but the vet cannot find any clinical systems he believes me as he knows I know my pets.

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

Well, I deal with customers too...having my own business and such, so my phone manner is quite good..I know that for a fact. Apart from the fact that he sniggered when I told him the cat's name "Fluffy"...not a polite laugh mind...a snigger...there were lots of silent moments I had to fill this in with polite "fluff" and I sort of spoke to him like when I deal to a rude customer who's complaining. I also had to do the leg-work in the conversation..."okay, Monday at 9:45 then..." (I said it...not him!!) and "no, it's better we do an initial consultation on Monday and take it from there" (again...said by me) after he suggested Fluffy has the vaccination for leukeamia on Monday...without having seen the cat and knowing his past vaccination/medical record? Seems a bit odd to me...also, I told him the cat was 6 months, came from a breeder and he came up with: "...so it's the initial vaccination we're doing on Monday"!? I may not have a degree in Veterinary Medicine but even I would guess a blimming pedigree kitten wouldn't leave a breeder without some sort of vaccination done, let alone a 6 month old one...I mean...dopey posh git or what? Maybe I disturbed him having his lunch...must've been half-way tucking into his kite-kat and cucumber sandwich...what the...

some breeders only do the Tricat and Rabies vacc not the Catflu and Leukemia vaccination. and please don't take this the wrong way but on here you come across a bit novice with cats so maybe he misunderstood you? I can call and give him some lip if you like hahah :P

oh and i forgot to add sometimes the reception and nurses get busy and the vets answer the phone... sometimes the vets are a bit crap on the phone (hence the need for receptionist and nurses lol) but even with crap phone side manor they can still be great vets.

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

I am registered with more than one vet simply because I find that from time to time the staff change and if there is one who is rather pompous and arrogant, I wont take my fur-child in to see them but will go to another vet on my list. Why should I pay money to someone who is rude to me, at the expense of my fur-children?

Name and shame !!!! )

At the moment, the vet I take my little ones to is staffed by very kind people who have never been rude to me.

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

just gone back and re-read through what Potatoes was saying and it appears to me that the person on the end of the phone was just not paying attention to what was being asked/said to him.

One of the breeders to whom I take my queen once interviewed her potential vet and included the question "do you listen?". By this, she meant that she knows her animals very well, has a wealth of knowledge about their past treatment, what works well for them and can look out for symptoms so when she tells a vet what she has observed, it would do well to pay attention to what she says - that way you cut out a lot of clever guess work, time and money wasting and avoid anger management courses.... LOL

I expected our vets to snigger at our cats names Sooty and Sweep, but they never have, but seriously why should they its a name and there is certainly nothing wrong with your cats name.

I suppose I get embarrassed because the names we chose came from a pre-school TV series. I fancied calling them Sapphire and Steel and that was TV series too.
