Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

I had a similar experience at my last vets, but it was an obnoxious receptionist who only worked there about 2 days a week. One occasion she was really rude and offhand with me when I was upset and stressed anyway due to my sick cat. I wrote a letter of complaint in to the head vet and nothing whatsoever was done about it, not even the courtesy of a reply.

As a result, on principle I changed my vets to a new very polite and friendly practice. I have further to travel now as the last vets was only 200 yards down the road from home and this one is now 15 minutes down the motorway. The old vets didnt perform any surgery in house though and you still had to take your pet to the next town for treatment, so at least now I only have to get the cat to the one place. My new vets are also more forward thinking, have modern computerised systems, whereas my old vets used to write everything down on a tatty bit of cardboard.

So all in all I am glad I changed practices and no longer have to deal with rude, uppity so-called receptionists

Just phoned up to make an appointment...and basically didn't like the attitude of the pompous pillock at the other end, vet or not. For being such an "intelligent" person he seemed to have forgotten that only knuckle-draggers can't be bothered with politeness and good manners. Chav vet with a posh accent? I wouldn't be surprised. Well anyway...should I trust an idiot such as this and give him (extort) my money?

Are your vets polite? Or are vets genberally like traffic wardens...obnoxious *****?
My vets are lovely The receptionist at my vets is really nice too and we have a laugh. She will alway squeeze me in that day if she can too
The problem is, is the staff at the main branch, there have been a few complaints about their attitude. People don't need or want to see miserable faces and be talked to like they are stupid. IMO, If they can't be nice and do the job properly they should be sacked. I know people have been too

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

I can understand the vet answering the phone in place of the receptionist, but if he's going to be that way, he should spare us the unprofessionalism and turn on the blimming answering maching. I don't know...I'm in two minds...this vet has conveniant parking, very modern etc:

My other alternative is a nightmare parking experience and not so modern facilities...but the vet is one of the best in the country (Duncan Davidson), but will it be him there all the time?

I'm split...

We have two vets at our practice, the one I have a good relationship with and another that I don't seem to get on with as well, but if he's the only vet on duty that day you're kind of stuck.

This other vet also refused to neuter my cat Thomas until he was six months old. He then got an abscess on his testicle (that must have been painful) and when I took him to the vets our usual vet told me I should have had him neutered.

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

It has to be a partnership between you and your vet. You are placing your cats health in their hands, so you have to like and have complete trust in them. I would always go by your first instincts and if you didn't like him/her for whatever reason, find another one You are paying for their services at the end of the day, and if they can not be bothered to put down their sarnies for a short call then **** em thats what I would say

I don't think it matters what equipment and premesis they have, if they misdiagnose, what good is all that stuff. For the really serious stuff, there are specialist referal centres who are far better trained and equiped than a general vet practice, and having learnt the hard way, anything out of the ordinary - push to see one of those.

If you are torn between 2 make an appointment to view both, go with a list of questions and ask for a tour of their facilities. Then see who you like the best. It could be Fluffs life in their hands, they have to be up to the job

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

Ours are alright, I don't like the actual vet, in fact I hate the guy, but I like the secretary

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

My Vets have all been lovely where I am no. Just sometimes there is a rude receptionist but I think they've pentioned her off now!!! Then one rude vet nurse who my Boyfriend had stern words with after she treated us like s**t.

One of our vets I love and adore , the other I hate and detest .
Think after an initial consultation if you are not happy to look elsewhere - it is often hard to gauge someone over the phone!

Re: Should we trust rude and arrogant vets?

Hi Potatoes

Having worked in a vets, quite some time ago I would say that it wasn;t the vet that you actually spoke to!!! Vets are way too important!!! It would have been a veterinary nurse or a trainee - either way I wouldn't use them!

The person that answered your phone call will be ultimately the person that deals with you (hopefully not) poorly pet! They could possible be the person that neuters your pussy cat should that be what you decide to do!

Everyone that works in a vets knows that animals aswell as their owners should come first!

I personally went back to the vets that I worked in because I knew the staff and am confident that should anything go wrong my three will all get the best of care!
