How can we tell the difference!

Hi

We picked up our two girl kittens yesterday! They are identical and we are really struggling to differentiate between the 2. We want to make sure they are both feeding etc ok plus when they need instruction we need to make sure it is the right one we are talking too!

We didn't think it would be a problem but can now see that until they are old enough to wear collars, its going to be a challenge!

Any ideas!
Thx

Mark a small piece of fur with a permenant marker

iodine is safe for marking you can mark the tip of the tail or ear or paw with a small amount. but be careful it stains!!!

Re: How can we tell the difference!

Maybe a dab of nail varnish right on the back of the neck where they can't lick at it. Not so permanent then as a marker would be, just put on tip of fur not near the skin for obvious reasons

Re: How can we tell the difference!

Thanks for your replies! Wasn't sure if marking them was dangerous for them!
They are both tabby's and their markings are almost identical, right down to a spot on the side of their noses!

I might try the iodine,

Thanks !

Re: How can we tell the difference!

Isn't iodine dark red? I doubt it'll show up on that colour cat. If it's the kittens in your photo, I have noticed a difference between them all...the forehead. Unique markings in all of them...

Re: How can we tell the difference!

I can see a difference in all 3 of those babies Iodene won't work on the fur of that coloured cat. A lot of dog breeders use coloured ribbon on puppies to identify them, we used to when we had the Guide Dog pups, what about that ? just until you get used to which is which
