I'm sorry to bring this tread back but i've just read it, it was posted before i joined.

I did have the same problem with my local rspca. I've been thinking about getting a cat for a long time, i've grown up having pets all my life while living with my parents. Even though i was planning to get a siamese, friends kept telling me i should rescue a cat instead.

To start with it was very difficult to get in touch with them, left many messages before they got back to me. When they called me back i was told that to adopt a cat i would have to own my own property, we're a young couple who live in London where house prices are very high so we haven't got quite there yet. I've been living in the same flat for 6 years (don't move every 6 months) and we're happy there, when we'll move it will be to our own place.

They wouldn't let us adopt but we could foster.....i was told we would get a cat temporarly until he/she would find a new family and then we would get a new foster cat and so on..........:

I just can't see the logic

Now i'll be getting the cat i innitialy wanted anyway and i'm very happy but i feel sorry for all the cats at rescue centers across the country who are being denied the opportunity to have a loving home.

I've spoken to other people who had similar experiences.

I am pleased I have read this thread, I did think about adopting a cat from a rescue centre and read their adoption policy. I did wonder where we could live to be suitable adoptors, most properties abuts a main road. It would depend on what they deem to be a main road ours is a bus route/school run, so it wasn't worth pursing.

I have taken that aspect of their policy seriously, and I am considering an outdoor cat run to keep our little fella safe. I did feel I am acquiring a kitten that I really shouldn't have.
