Cat Rules

Just something I picked up from another thread, I was going to post there, but it had already gone off topic.

What do you allow your cats to do and what do you stop them doing?

For example, my cats are allowed in all rooms of the house, but I tend to keep our bedroom doors shut during the day as I don't really like them sleeping on the beds... however they are not allowed on tables and kitchen sides at all.

The cats are allowed on the sofa and armchair, but the will get pushed off if we run out of seating for people. They are also allowed to sit on window ledges. The are not allowed in baskets of washing.

When they are outside they can climb/sit/sleep on anything. There are no rules.

Re: Cat Rules

Cats are allowed anywhere except on the kitchen worktop and on the dining table - other than that, it's a pretty free run. They aren't allowed in the kids bedrooms at night in case they disturb them but that's about it!!!

I have tried to have rules but they get so sad....!!!

Re: Cat Rules

I originally wanted to keep Tiffany out of the kitchen all together but thats not even a remote posibility although I never want her on the worktops, at the mo she can't get up there though.
She gets free run of the place and usually sleeps on a cushion on the sofa during the day but sleeps on my pillow at night, I hate the cat hair all over and am sure its horribly unhygenic but I like to have her cuddle in.
I noticed another post who asked about kittens pawing their face, Tiffany does this places the pads of her paws on my lips and gently taps me to wake me up, she also does the nose to nose thing which is very cute unless she has just been eating then its very smelly and not at all pleasant.
I think regarless of what I would like Tiffany to do and not to do I'm such a pushover she pretty much suits herself. Big issue just now is trying to stop her playing with my cheeseplant! Her playing the guitar is highly amusing though

Re: Cat Rules

My cats have free acsess to roam all house, except kitchen worktops, during the night they have downstairs to themselves. They are not aloud in our bedroom, as they would not let us to sleep- they keep jumping on my partners toes and scratching my back, or purring really loadly (its even worse that my partner's snoring)
i am too soft to put any rules, and i have to admit i treat my cats like they were my babies i think it's understandable though, i don't have children, so i need to show my affection and love to somebody

Re: Cat Rules

Don't really have any rules except:

No biting - no, withdraw hand and distract

Allowed out only during daylight and must be in by 17.00 (when they get fed )

Kitchen worktops - well, yeah, I discourage but I know it is going to happen while I am away/asleep/at work - so it just means making sure that I wipe down etc

Re: Cat Rules

Our cats have free range of everything in the entire house, but not on kitchen work tops, no drinking out the toilet, pinching cotton buds and throwing them around no licking of bottoms whilst we are eating
