Unhappy got a cat wee problem

hi can any one help?one of our cats has weed on the carpet, ive tried lots of shampoos, disinfectants, but the smell wont go away, or if it does it doesnt last for very long, i think fern(cat) goes back to the same spot, our cats are not house cats and come and go, so i cant understand why shes done it in the house, ive heard that white vinegar works, i did try it but it didnt work, i think i diluted it too much, if any one can help it would be very much appreciated because the smell is driving me mad. thanks

Re: got a cat wee problem

Hi Have you tried Simple solution? I think you get it from the petshop. Or another specialist pet odour killing product? It has to have some kind of enzyme action to break down the residual odour. You need to absolutely saturate the spot too, because the wee sinks through to the backing and spreads out under the carpet, and you're right, the smell will keep drawing them back to that spot.
Do test a little area first though just to be sure it's ok for your carpet.

Simple solution can be bought at Pets At Home. You need to put enough down for it to soak through the underlay.

Don't clean with usual household cleaners as most are based on amonia (sp?) which attracts cats to wee

Your cats may go out but do you provide a litter tray? Placing a litter tray on the 'spot' may help - you can then move it slowly to a more convenient place.

Advice will include taking cat to vet to make sure hasn't got urinary tract infection or other problems.

I have had a problem with male cat going just outside covered litter tray. Changed tray to a bigger model with a wider door and seemed to have worked........(crosses fingers).

Red face Re: got a cat wee problem

hi,thanks for the advice! ive tried simple solution, but the smell is still there, fern was at the vet recently for her booster and had a full health check and everything was fine, i dont have litter trays in the house because there usually out more than in, they basically come in for food, fern was from a rescue centre(not a reputable one)so i havnt got a clue about her back ground , weve had her for just over a year, shes very small ,the vet said she was aroung 5. shes quite a grumpy cat , its funny really when i saw her at the rescue centre she wrapped her self round mylegs and purred and came over as being friendly, once home she was the opposite!very growly, hissy and feisty.i think she was caught short , or locked in the room by accident, thats why she weed.
the smell seems to settle for a bit then suddenly stink again. i will get some cat litter and put it in the room and see if it helps.

Re: got a cat wee problem

I had a breeder recommend mixing up a washing powder solution...ie. get big container put in some washing power (ie.persil etc) mix up with warm water and then scrub like mad....its wonderful....worked for us and I have used this mop up stains also...like red wine, printer cartridge (which exploded on cream carpet...yes....) childrens poorly tummies (yes, you know what I mean!) and all likes of cat ablutions. Try it.

Re: got a cat wee problem

I would try using a bigger quantity? Cat wee is amazingly potent stuff and if you don't get every bit away the smell does come back. The other possibility is that somehow she is managing to get back there and 'reapply' when you're not around. The first time can be an accident, but it can become a habit with a particular spot if they can still smell it. Hope you solve it.
