Re: Learning their name!

Thanks everyone! I think we'll just keep on doing what we are at the moment. Sure it will come in time. Sounds like we've got things right with the 2 syllables and we are repeating his name constantly. Wonder what the neighbours think with us shouting 'Yasser' every 2 minutes!?

Thanks again!

Re: Learning their name!

I think cats do know words, mine do. All mine have nicknames as well as their real names and they will respond to both. That said by nature cats are accountable only to themselves, so will only respond to you when they deem it necessary

I read a cats intelligence test once that said that if your cat understood the word 'No', so many points and they got a bonus if they understood the word 'No', but chose to ignore it All mine defintely fall into the latter category, although they do keep that so called inteligence very well hidden

Re: Learning their name!

my 2 gils, poppy and lily, reposnd to Pops and Lil. Our boy doesnt know his name at all.

We used to have a bengal male called Alfie, at the same time we house shared with another couple and their cat was called Lammi. If you shouted one of them both would come running, i dont think they knew their names, they just knew the "ie" sound at the end.

I think it depends on the cat.

Think of cats like women... 'its not what you said it's the way you said it.'
Well ella responds to her name in a way like no other plus they do seem to know other words like the "Where is it" for moths. I just tried saying both in different ways. effie is now off moth searching and ella came running at the sound of her name from upstairs!

Plus being gay I know nothing about women!

Mine know the word no! As I say Effie raises her paw to me when I say no, as I always try and scold her with a finger waving. If I say no even without the finger she still bitch slaps me!
