stopping odours in the air

what things do you use to get rid of litter tray/pee odours in the air? i'm thinking of switching to a litter tray with a hood/roof on , do you think this would help any and get some automatic airfreshners.

Re: stopping odours in the air

You could try a different litter. I use Oko Plus and you get no odours with that at all.

Re: stopping odours in the air

I use a mixture of methods:-
- nice odour absorbing litter for the cat trays - eg OKO Plus
- good cleaning products to wipe up/cleans cat spillages - eg Simple Solution of Four Paws Urine & Odor Remover
- fresh air - certain windows can be opened without a fur-child being able to escape
- fabric fresheners for example febreze
- selected scents for the house - plug ins, aerosols, incense burners

My word how smelly it would be in my house if these were not used - my two queens certainly are high maintenance. The other babes are nice and clean on the whole.

i have a hooded litter tray for my kittens, i had to leave the door flap off until they learnt to use the door and now the smell is hardly noticeable unless the monkey's pull the filter out lol

Re: stopping odours in the air

I use a normal open cat litter tray lined with newspaper and then filled with Tesco cheap cat litter. I change and clean it as required and we have no cat piddle or poop smells lingering in the air at all.

Re: stopping odours in the air

We use incense sticks.

Just be careful with plug-ins and aerosols as these can be harmful to pets!!

Re: stopping odours in the air

Like mrsdusty, I use a normal open litter tray with a Tesco brand litter (I have found this to be better than some of the dearer main brand ones!). The poops are cleaned out of the litter tray as soon as they have been deposited. The tray is completely cleaned out often... and we don't get any pee or poo smells lingering either.

One day I did the total tray clean 2 days late, I did get a sniff of a pee smell but that was due to me not cleaning it out sooner.

Re: stopping odours in the air

I use hooded trays, but you can get special lamps that you put oil in, they warm it and scent the rooms, they are electric and some can be fastened on the wall, they often have them at cat shows.
