Re: advice needed for fostering kittens
How well does this cat know you? And how soon will they be comming to stay with you?
The reason I ask this, is because I would worry that at only 1 week old, moving their home to somewhere they do not recognise could really upset the mum, if this was to happen then there is the chance that mum could start to reject them. If you could wait till at least 2 weeks, I just think you would be reducing that risk greatly, plus if it was to happen the kittens would be alot stronger and stand more of a chance being hand reared. As far as what you will need. Lots of kitten food, mum will be eating up to 4 times her normall amount while she is feeding the kittens. Dry kitten food / and or baby rice, for when you come to weaning the kittens at about 4 weeks old. I used dry kitten food soaked in boiled water (cooled). But I know some people use baby rice and other things. Spare towles/bedding for the nest, this should be changed regularly to keep it nice and clean for them... also expect a few accidents when they start eating solids. Small / low sided food bowles, for when the kittens start to feed, some adult bowles can be too deep for them to eat from comfortably. A litter tray (low sided one when they are really little) and cat litter made from something that it wont matter if the eat it, such as wood based or corn based. ...there is prob a load of stuff I have forgotten, but more people will add to it anyway. ![]() |

Re: advice needed for fostering kittens
i have known the owner and the cat lilly for a lil while so hopefully she wont be too upset with the move also it will be sometime in the next week that i may be getting them so they will be nearer 2wks old then, i will be getting replacement milk and feeding equipment in just in case too
i have plenty of food, towels and bedding ready, i also have a small litter tray and low sided bowls already for them for weaning

Re: advice needed for fostering kittens
An alarm clock to wake you up in the middle of the night and remind you to feed them
![]() Seriously, good luck with this. I really hope it works out.
