Re: POLL:cats kittens or rescue home

Hi

I have rescued all my 7 cats

4 of them are golden oldies, 8/9 and 2 12 year olds, the oldest one I had was a 15 year old one eyed , partly sighed in the other eye male, sadly died after 2 years of being with me...
I feel so sorry for the older ones, people dont want them, even tho they are prob the most relaxed cats around, in my opinion.
the other 3 are 2 kittens, and one 4 year old.

I would never go to a breeder for any animals, as there are so many in homes , needing homes, being destroyed becuase they run out of space ... its so sad, so its these animals i help, I recently rescued a hamster, so I mean any animal.

Michelle

Re: POLL:cats kittens or rescue home

I would get a kitten because I already have three cats and I think it would settle in better

Re: POLL:cats kittens or rescue home

Hello,

I just thought i would add to this convo.

About a month ago i decided i wanted to get a kitten (never having had cats before decided i would like a kitten to be bought up with us, and our young children. I contacted Cats Protection League and was told point blank they dont rehome to anyone who has children under 6. I contacted several charities who, having seen kittens on their website i decided to go through them. However, when i called them i found them very reluctant to discuss me adopting a kitten as i wanted them to be indoor cats. For some bizzare reason i was told that they get stressed. I was told to go and see someone who had a cat in my area????! Very strange.

I contacted quite a few rescue centres as i felt this would be the best thing to do and i really wanted to help a kitten have a good home.

I trawled several charities all saying the same thing, they dont recommend indoor cats and that because i live near a school they prob wouldnt recommend me adopting, except if i got a poorly cat, or one that couldnt go out for specific reasons. I discussed this with my partner and we decided this wasnt for us.

So, after all that i did buy 2 kittens, sisters who came from a lovely lady who clearly loved them to pieces. They are indoor cats and they have settled in amazingly!! They are absolutely fine being indoor cats, and they are quite happy with each other and the family. The children love them to pieces and are very gentle with them, as i expected them to be anyway.

However, i totally appreciate that if you can rescue from a centre it is prob the best thing, especially an older cat. I am now in the position where a family friend is moving abroad and has a 10 yr old cat who he is considering putting into a rescue home - my partner has said no but i am still working on it, absolutely hate the thought of this cat going to a home when imo it seems quite difficult to adopt them.
