Re: considering giving sophie up

Hi

I really feel for you - what an awful position to be in.

When you say that all four sleep and eat in the conservatory do you think that maybe Sophie needs somewhere that is more her own territory so to speak? I had three 'mature' cats - 13, 12 and 12 and brought home two kittens. There was much hissing and snarling but I found that when I started feeding them in separate areas of the house and let some sleep on the landing upstairs and others downstairs, things improved greatly.

They're still not the best of friends but they tolerate each other and rub along together well enough.

Just a thought that came to mind when reading your post.

It is possible I could try her in other conservatory as she seemed to be ok in there when we first got her. She will sleep on bed near roony during day if they are on my bed but has taken to getting on my youngest sons bed at min which is really the only room in the house the other cats dont go as they tend to sleep in my eldest sons room or on my bed. I am really struggling with what to do with her.She is now outside watching my eldest fix the go kart she loves to be around them.Other cats are asleep around house and i have had door open to conservatory she used to sleep in all day and she has been in there as she has her own leather settee in there and lays on back of it watching birds threw window. She seems worse in a morning when we let them in when we get up they all have access outside at night if they want to go out via a cat flap and are normally all sat at door waiting for us to open it. Wonder if it could be an attention thing either i have been sat thinking about it all day and different things keep coming to mind as to what it could be

Re: considering giving sophie up

Well i think someone has brought me another kitten this morning. Opened doors and snowy came wandering in had been laid on door step doesnt seem to go much further . Any way in he came and sophie rubbed round him purring away then sat eating at side of him still purring . She has had a bit of a tumble with him but there was no hissing or growling at all this time so i just watched as they were on floor at side of me then they just laid next to each other.Snowy did have a go back at her last night i kept an eye but thought it might be better if he showed her who was boss as normally he just runs away from her she had a bit of a meow but it wasnt anything serious. Roony is still a bit wary but hopefully he will follow his little brother and they can all become friends. Lets hope this is the start of her changing and things carry on getting better. Dont expect perfect harmony but would be great to see a bit less fur flying

Re: considering giving sophie up

if you were thinking of giving her up to the rspca, just to let you know I have a cat from there and he was well looked after and loved! I know who ever gave up rupert 6 years (that was not his orginal name) must really have had to give him up as he is wonderful. Sorry I digressed, the rspca did look after him very well and you can rest assured that she will go to a good home, they vet every home and do follow ups. It is not nice when a cat or any animal behaves like that, you must be wondering what you did and all you are trying to do is the right thing by the cat. Maybe she is just ment to be a single cat and one that is not a 'lap cat' which in that case it may determine what you do next, but you have to think of what is good for the house hold and family.
