Re: Talk about are beloved cats and kittens

I know what you mean about responsibility on rehoming ...... I have my 2 little stray kittens which we have been looking after now for 3 weeks and are now aged almost 9 weeks (yes cant believe it!!).....I have even had to fall out with my family because I didnt want to give one of the kittens to my sister with her little boys as I KNOW its not a safe environment for him. So, have decided to just keep them at the moment and see how things go here. 6 cats.....and 3 kids ..... I really am a slave. For the record my 11 year old wouldnt have a clue what a forum was either....or the know how of how to use it!

My niece is 12 and nephew 10, they do go on forums appropriate to their ages but their mother supervises at all times and watches what is going on. They have only one computer in a downstairs room, that can easily be monitored

Just spoke to 21 yr old son

Teach, don't monitor. You can't monitor. What happens when they go round to their friends? Cell phones have internet capacity; schools have internet connections. There are internet cafes.

OK this is OT and i speak from expereience. You cannot monitor.

Re: Talk about are beloved cats and kittens

I know this isn't on topic...

With regards to kids and using computers/internet... I agree you can't monitor, or you can but not all the time, as they can have/get access elsewhere than just at home.

I agree, you need to teach your kids safety when using the internet.

But I know that alot of parents just don't bother. They don't bother monitoring or teaching. They just let their kids do what they want... after all, if the kids are on the PC... at least they're out of the way and keeping quiet

(not saying all parents do this, but I personally think a good few do).

OT: none of this makes sense to me!!!

Re: Talk about are beloved cats and kittens

I haven't voted. I would have loved to have re-home a cat after Jasper passed away, but the re-homing policy of the local shelter insists on your property being more than 150 yards away from a busy main road, bus route/school run.

I haven't checked myself but I would told by our vet that the RSPCA insist on a cat flap. That wouldn't have been a problem but by that time I already had my two kittens.

If I wanted a pedigree kitten I would seek advice on this forum as to a reputable breeder. If I wanted a non-pedigree kitten I would check the internet. Now we have an outdoor enclosure I am sure we would be classed as suitable cat owners by any rescue centre - still not sure though.
